October 11, 201213 yr I agree he should have swung. Still say starting the runners was stupid. Any other manager would have bunted a slow running catcher with no power. It was the 6th inning not the 8th or 9th. I more ok with starting the runners because Hannigan seldom strikes out.
October 11, 201213 yr I know he strikes out a lot but he puts it in play 66% of the time. I still play it straight up. Stubbs K's all the time & bats .214.
October 11, 201213 yr He doesn't make contact enough, which is why he isn't leading off and he can't bunt, which is why he doesn't make contact that much, and isn't leading off. If the Reds postseason fate is on Drew Stubbs' ability to bunt they are worse off than I thought. He makes contact more often than Hannigan gets a hit.
October 11, 201213 yr If you start the runners, Hanigan has to swing at anything remotely resembling a strike, period. He just has too. I wouldn't have started the runners, but it's not a terrible play unless Hanigan takes strike three and Bruce gets thrown out. Personally, I play conservatively there and if Hanigan hits into a traditional double play, I curse the luck. But, if ANYTHING else happens, I've still got a chance for a big inning.
October 11, 201213 yr It's go time here. Pick up one run at least and keep turning the lineup. If the hitters at the top want a second AB, they need to do something this inning.
October 11, 201213 yr Author He makes contact more often than Hannigan gets a hit. Good God, I hope! What does that even mean? I would assume he makes contact more than most MLB'ers get a hit.
October 11, 201213 yr Dusty has been at a disadvantage all year in close games. That is why his record id bad in close games and elimation games.
October 11, 201213 yr Hannigan choked boys, it's on him. The decision would have been the same had he slapped it on the ground resulted the same as a bunt.
October 11, 201213 yr Author Bottom line is the Reds haven't destroyed the baseball all year. What do you do when a team struggles offensively? You move runners and hit the other way. Down 3 isn't time to play for one.
October 11, 201213 yr Not in the sense they are using it regarding Dusty because using your logic Dusty would have won some elimination games because he has won playoff series, and those other teams were eliminated when they won. Just because you win a series doesn't mean you won an elimination game. an elimination game is when it is win or go home. Today is an elimination game for both teams just like the NFL playoffs.
October 11, 201213 yr I still play it straight up. Stubbs K's all the time & bats .214. Stubbs puts in play or walks 70% of the time. I know he has a ton of strikeouts but the odds are in his favor
