Holmes 12 Newport Central Catholic 7

He is a talent no doubt. Coach Liggin told me earlier in the week that Peterson has a 3.2 GPA going for the first quarter so hopefully that's a good sign. I'll probably write something about him this week. He's a made a nice comeback.

I wasn't at the game but Peterson makes those catches against anyone and everyone. Honestly, Holmes should throw up 10 long bloopers to him every week. He will come down with 8 of them. It is a real shame the kid probably isn't going to take advantage of his talent and get a free college education.

They did and he did. Only real offense they had. NCC keyed on Scruggs and he didn't get many yards, a couple of decent runs, but not much. Both D-lines dominated the run game. 44 (sorry I don't know his name) for NCC had a couple of decent runs also. Franzen for NCC is an excellent receiver. QB needs to get the ball to hin, though.

I hope it goes well for him, I really do.

Hope that is a good sign, saw him play earlier in the year and he is flat out gifted....hopefully he takes advantage of what God has given him!

I interviewed Sean after the Beechwood win and he really does seem like he is trying and you can notice a difference in the way he carries himself. Also, very well spoken.

Very nice kid Walter, as you know. A lot going on in his life that most of us will never understand how he can overcome it. Academics really not his problem. He is trying it appears. Holmes as you stated is a solid team 4-2. They've beaten three good teams in Scott, Beechwood and NCC, lost to SK and Copper, 2 very good teams. They haven't lost with BJ at QB. Harrison next, should get that before the 'Birds and CCH (not near in their class) before finishing with Holy Cross whom they can play with.

A 6-4 finish against this schedule is about what I expected at the beginning of the year with a 3 seed in the playoffs.

Not sure who Holmes would play in the playoffs but I can guarantee they'll be one of the best 3 seeds in the state for 4A. When they eliminate mental mistakes, they are a very good football team. They have speed, size, and athleticism.

Probably will play at Johnson Central again. That's a tough place to go. If not Johnson Central, they would go to Ashland, who have the athleticism to match. Rather do one of those 2 than Boyle or Lex Cath, though. Holmes "D;" is pretty good, offense better than last year, but they aren't efficient enough to score lots of points against good teams. They'd need some breaks to beat them.

Johnson Central versus this Holmes team would be interesting. If you play one dimensional offense against the Holmes defense, they can beat you. They have the talent to play solid defense against anyone and a team that can't pass the ball effectively is in trouble versus the Bulldogs. Then it comes down to Peterson and/or Scruggs making a couple big offensive plays and we all know they can do that.

C'mon, was a nice win for the horrible officiating crew. They cost NCC the game. TD catch called back on a phantom chop block, was not even close to one. Different game if the Breds score there. Two of Holmes' players should have been ejected for punching NCC players in the face, one of which was #11 early in the third. Inexcusable by the refs for not calling it. #45 for the Breds got chopped blocked 6 times and leg whipped once and none of these penalties were called. Horrific.......

#11 for Holmes is a good player, but those catches were on the NCC players.

You can't gripe about the refs. This is something that we are notorious for when we lose games. NewCath's lack of consistency on offense and absolute inability to find the ball while it is in the air on defense was the main culprit. This is 2 games where a pass has floated into the end zone only for the receiver of the opposing team make the play on the ball. Eventually the DBs for NewCath are going to have to swell up and, at worst, bat that ball away.

What a bunch of lame excuses. You were beat. Get better.

I agree, the officiating didn't cost NCC the game. The chop block call was on the line while everyone's attention was on the QB and receivers. I would imagine the officials watching the blocking from the field would be in a better position to make the call. There were some calls that I didn't care for but that went both ways.

I think the field condition played a major role in the game. Neither team could mount a running attack because the offensive line could get no push and the running backs could not cut. That left the game to be decided by big plays like the passes that Holmes completed. The defensive secondary NCC had in the game just didn't get the job done breaking up passes that could have been defended.
