Holmes 12 Newport Central Catholic 7

I agree, the officiating didn't cost NCC the game. The chop block call was on the line while everyone's attention was on the QB and receivers. I would imagine the officials watching the blocking from the field would be in a better position to make the call. There were some calls that I didn't care for but that went both ways.

I think the field condition played a major role in the game. Neither team could mount a running attack because the offensive line could get no push and the running backs could not cut. That left the game to be decided by big plays like the passes that Holmes completed. The defensive secondary NCC had in the game just didn't get the job done breaking up passes that could have been defended.

SPOT ON, I mentioned some of this in previous posts.

Well....I've seen the film, and while I am reluctant to blame refs in most cases, everything I said was fact. Was a bogus call on the TD catch. The center for New CAth attempted to cut # 74 but missed him. No other lineman touched him...was a crap call, plain and simple. So yes, I do blame those refs. Absolutely different game if holmes has to play from behind. I don't dispute the fact that the DBs need to play better. And in defense of the missed TD throw that would have won the game. Was a great throw actually, the WR stopped running because he thought he got interfered with on the throw. That's on the WR to keep on his route. Like I said before, two different Holmes players threw punches, nothing was done about it. Btw, the field had nothing to do with the outcome.....

Holmes' field takes a good beating during the year, but if both teams have to play on it, so be it.

Seems to be a lot of negativity coming off of the hill this year? Is this really warranted? I'm no expert, and really don't even know their record, but I do know they've lost a few games in which they had the chance to win at the end, but couldn't hang on or punch it in. If they win those, what's the reaction then? Have people become so accustomed to winning that when they lose they have to blame everyone from the coaches, to the officials, and also the custodian? Maybe the players need to make plays? Maybe the players could be less enabled at home? There really isn't a rebuttle here either. Players have to make plays and that needs to start with their Seniors.

I haven't seen too much of this really. I think that everyone knows that the pieces are there. It's just a matter of making the plays that championship-caliber teams do. They haven't done that yet. If calling that out is being down on your team, then all realistic review of a game is gone and you can only have blind fanaticism.

Missed calls always balance themselves out.

I would say it has nothing to do with the coaches, they have a great staff who are dedicated to these kids. It all has to do with the players and digging down deep and playing with more emotion and heart. JMO

Will defer to you on this one since you have seen the film. Agree on the second bolded.

Not going to quote any of the above and I wasn't there so can't comment on this call or that call, but last time I checked both teams had to play on the same field and with the same officiating. I've seen a lot of Holmes' games over the years and never have I felt they got calls that went their way. Hell, one call cost them a playoff game two years ago but I never once said anything about it. Holmes has been notorious for delay of game this year and shooting themselves in the foot with penalties...and didn't they get called for a hold late in the game on a fake punt that would've iced the game and never even given Newcath that final drive??

If you have to blame one or two calls for costing you the game, you probably didn't deserve to win anyways. Take care of business early and it doesn't come down to one or two plays or calls...plain and simple.

The staff is a proven commodity. It comes down, like you said, to making plays. All it takes is a stretch of two games and things begin to gel and roll. Just keep the faith and stay disciplined.

Miller, absolutely agree. Kids have to play better. You know the old saying, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make em drink". That's the problem. The play calling is good. Players need to rise up and make plays. Plain and simple. I realize their are bad calls in every game. But I'm telling you, this chop block call was as bad as I've ever seen. And for two of the Holmes players to throw punches and not be ejected is inexcusable. The chop blocks and leg whip that were used against the DE for New Cath could have got that kid hurt. Unbelievable that not one of them we're called. I hope there is some way that these plays are turned in and those refs are held accountable for their poor performance.
