Vince Young is broke and pointing fingers

Featured Replies

Six years ago, quarterback Vince Young became the third overall pick in the draft, signing a contract with the Titans that paid him $26 million.

Now, Young is out of the NFL — and out of money.

“I would just say that Vince needs a job,” attorney Trey Dolezal told the Associated Press regarding Young’s financial situation.

Young has sued his former agent, Major Adams, and a financial planner, Ronnie Peoples. Young claims that they misappropriated $5.5 million, via forged signatures and impersonated phone calls and emails. Young also alleges that a $1.7 million lockout loan in 2011 was obtained in his name by Adams and Peoples.

“They conspired to take Vince’s money,” Dolezal said. “It’s that simple.”

This is really sad to me. So much money, yet so irresponsible.

And I expect to hear the same about Chad Johnson soon.

I wonder if there's any truth to it? And I always thought Vince was a CFL type guy anyway.

Very sad. I don't understand how someone can blow through all that money so quick. Too many bad people making bad decisions for them.

I agree, he needs to get someone he can trust and get to camp in the CFL and salvage what is left of his talent and earning power.

What many forget is that Young has a career 30-19 career record. He was Rookie of the Year and twice named to the Pro Bowl (not as glamorous as it once was, but still...). Just not right in the head. I remember him contemplating retirement after his rookie season. At that time I knew this was going nowhere but downhill for the guy. Then the Collins takeover in '08 pretty much ended his mental career.

The sad story of agents blowing clients' money is too common and sad.

Bottomline, you don't let anyone else control YOUR money.

I said the same thing about Chad on here in another thread last year and got blasted. I don't feel sorry for any athlete that blows that much money. I don't care about backgrounds or upbringing's, etc.. If you can't google "how to save or invest", then live with the results.

On one hand I agree with that but on the other hand not everyone is prepared to properly handle their own finances.

I would like to see the NFL go a step further here, have some financial planners available where there are checks and balances to protect the players.

Totally agree. I would think the players union would have at least discussed this very thing. And maybe there is something like that available, I have no idea, but obviously if so, old Vince didn't think he needed to go that route.

That's the Players' Union's responsibility, as well as the players'.

Just because the Union has the guys available doesn't mean they will listen and let them help. The financial damage starts at a much much younger age for most of these guys. It's very difficult for them to grasp the reality of the future. They live in the now 100% all the time.

Being a Union guy I can say that Unions do tons to help their fellow Union workers out. I would be surprised of they do have some kind of financial assistance program for the players. It's up to the players to utilize it or if it isn't there to request the need for it. The boss of the Union is the players. Not the executive committee.
