If you want to say they are just average right now, I definitely can't argue that. A lot to work on, I am very disappointed in the defensive line this year. Last year that was a strength and so far they have not really shown up.

You have to realize no secondary is going to stop teams from being able to pass if they have no pressure on the QB. Even a rookie QB can tear up a defense if they have all day to throw. The secondary needs to improve, however the Bengals made changes in the secondary assuming that the pass rush from last year would still be there. So far it has not been, hopefully when Dunlap plays they can get back to consistently putting good pressure on the QB or else the secondary will get shredded all year long. The D-line is a big problem so far this season than the secondary.
September 16, 201214 yr A win is a win and that is all that matters, however they have a lot to fix. Especially the pass rush is the biggest concern for me. Andy Dalton had a good game but missed on some deep throws early, he has to give Green a chance to make a play on those deep balls and stop over throwing him. The receivers as a whole had a really good game, but Gresham once again was a big disappointment for the game except for the last catch. Next weeks game against the Redskins while winnable will be a tough one if the let RG3 have all day long and not collapse the pocket. Who dey!

He has talent and if you give a guy all day to throw then they will have big days like him. I know most people will talk about how the secondary sucks, however you can have all pros in the secondary and they would look horrible since there is no rush on the QB. The defensive line is the biggest worry for me on the Bengals defense now. If they do not get back to how they were getting after the QB last year, then it could be a long year for the defense. QB's will have a field day with all day to throw like that.
September 16, 201214 yr Offensively, I do believe that they are good. Defensively, a completely different story. It has been quite a while since the whole defense has looked this horrendous, particularly the secondary. If their defense continues on this way, the season could be very long considering most of their schedule. The defense made Weeden look really good considering how he played last week against the Eagles.

There have been plenty of blown coverages as well as defensive players simply getting burned. This is not a good defense.

The homers wanted to believe they were good but ignored who they were good against last year. They were good statistically last year bc of the QB's they faced.
September 17, 201214 yr Author Mauluga is such a liability in space. Our Oline is just as bad as the Dline. Guess we will spend another first round on the line and hope.

September 17, 201214 yr Weeden had a QB rating of 5 last week. He threw for 322 yards today. Look at Vick's stats against Cleveland and Baltimore. Those games can be played all day. Obviously some glaring holes in the defense, but hopefully they can get things together. They've dealt with a lot of injuries already, and they've had to insert a lot of new pieces. We'll see if they improve throughout next week when they get comfortable together. Luckily, the offense looks very solid.

The homers want to believe they were good? Yet this homer was the only one who thought they would do good last year and stated why I thought they would be good? There may be homers on this site, but I base my predictions and what I believe will happen on what I see. Last years defense was a good defense, and teams who played them thought that and people who saw that and know defenses saw that. With that said what made them a good defense last year was the fact that they were able to get pressure on the QB. It seems like everytime Dunlap does not play they don't pressure the QB as well. Same thing happened to the defense after Dunlap got hurt last year on the last play of the Titans game. You can talk about the QB's all you want, and its true they are playing better ones this year. However if you noticed these top QB's you talk about all the time look normal when they have pressure on them. So when they get Dunlap back and Moch back from suspension the pass rush should get better which in turn would help against better QB's. If the pass rush does not get better I completely agree it will get really ugly this year.
