Does anybody know the status of Allen and Kirkpatrick?

The Bengals defense the last 4 seasons has finished 12th, 4th, 15th, and 7th. So people acting like the Bengals defense was just a one time lucky thing last year based on who they played are wrong. For the last 4 seasons the Bengals have had a better defense than half the teams in the NFL and a top 10 on in two of those years. They have a good defense but I must admit not great. Or I should say had a good defense, because right now they definitely are not good. I am just hoping the return of Dunlap and Moch from suspension helps the pass rush. The pass rush is the biggest concern and if that gets fixed it can get them back to at least the top half of the defenses in the NFL. It just would then be on the offense to be consistent with scoring.

Okay, so they're not the 7th best defense in the league? No one disagrees with ya there. They're also probably not as bad as they've played this year.

I sure hope not. Curtis Painter isn't walking through that door to face them any time soon. Neither is Kyle Orton, or Kellen Clemens, Charlie Whitehurst, TJ Yates, etc...

It does matter when you act like they are bad and just got lucy last year. That shows the defense has been at least top half in the NFL in defense. So even though they did play some QB's who were not great last year, doesn't mean they were not a good defense. You try to make it out to be like the defense was the worst in the NFL last year and were just lucky. While most NFL people did consider them a top 10 defense. Now even if you don't want to say they are a top 10 defense last year, they were still better than half of the defenses in the NFL. There are a lot of bad defenses in the NFL and the Bengals are not one of them. Well should say were not one of them. What QB's they face this year won't matter if they can't get a pass rush. Even last year against those QB's if they have no pass rush they would have struggled last year too. However if they can get that pass rush back it will make them much better even against better QB's. Will they finish in the top 10 this year no, but can they be still at the top half of defenses yes if they have the pass rush. If they dont then I agree with you they will get torn up and could give up 30 points a game.

Browns have a good defense but Bengals made Weeden look way to good.

 

I predicted the Browns to be a tough oppenent for teams this year before they even played a game. So what happened in the Bengals game is not why I think they won't be the worst team in the NFL. I see them with around 6 wins this year. They have a good defense especially when Haden gets back from suspension, and their offense does have talent. Will get better as the year goes on, but will take on some bumps along the way.

I am saying and have been saying they got extremely lucky to face bad QB's and on a lot of occasions back ups and even one occasion a guy that was on the team for one week. Every decent QB they faced beat them except for possibly Matt Hasselbeck. Who does he start for this year?

So I know the defense is not going to do as well as last year against these top QB's. They will give up more points, and shoot if they don't fix this pass rush it is goin to be over 30 points a week. Howeve they also won't be seeing as good of defenses, which means the Bengals offense should also do better this year. Especially with having Dalton in his 2nd year. If they don't do better, meaning they probably have to score at least in the 20's each week for a chance.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the luck the Gals ran into last year in compiling stats that rated them as a top defense. That's what you keep pointing out. It's more who they played, not the guys they had that made them do statistically well on D.

The teams under Zimmer have shown that they will be in the top half of the NFL each year in defense no matter who they play. Half of the teams in the NFL would love to have the defenses the Bengals have had the last 4 years. Maybe that will finally change this year and they will end up in the bottom half, but we we will see. Also If you looked I agreed with you now that some of the QB's they played last year did help them out, however you also keep failing to notice that those teams also have top defenses. Your whole act this offseason was that the team won't do well this year because they will play better offenses, yet you don't want to recognize they also will play defenses this year that are not as good. Which means the Bengals offense then should do better.

 

So once again if the Bengals can get the pass rush back then that will help them out a lot, because a pass rush even slows down top QB's some. Will they score still no doubt, will those teams usually score at least 20 something most likely. However the Bengals against these teams should also be able to do the same, they won't be seeing as good of defenses on a consistent basis like they did last year. It just comes down to the offense has to do what they are capable of and the defense at least getting back to what it has always been under Zimmer which is at least in the top half of NFL defenses. If they can't then it will be a long season.
