Notre Dame to join the ACC

Featured Replies

ND has 3 NCAAT wins in a decade and hasn't made Sweet 16 since 1979. Yippie...

True. But ND also has a large fan base throughout the nation, esp the Chicago area. Those viewers are now watching the ACC, not the BE. $$

This thread should be moved from College Football to College Basketball or the Thread title adjusted since Notre Dame is not joining the ACC in football.

Not sure what Notre Dame brought to the Big East basketball table to begin with.

Women's basketball.

The five guaranteed football games against ACC opponents is a big part of the story and it's definitely enough to warrant inclusion here.

Hopefully the Big East can steal an ACC team like Boston College.

So you are saying ND has massive TV ratings in hoops???

Hopefully the Big East can steal an ACC team like Boston College.

Not with the $50 million buyout. CBK now has the cream-puff schedule he needs to get FB into the national polls. FB will join ACC when contract with NBC expires. Conference champ game will allow him to survive regular losses to Michigan and SoCal. Did anyone really think they's join Big 10? OSU, Michigan, Wisc, MSU....they'd be a middle of the pack team perenially.

^ True, but I was speaking of Men's basketball.

I should have added a smiley for my sarcasm.

They now have even more reason to never leave independent status. Only way they join is if NBC cuts ties in 2015 when deal expires. The ACC deal with ESPN is smoke and mirrors and would be a massive step down for ND...

Actually I think they lost to Michigan State in the Final 8 that year.

I should have picked up on it. :thumb::lol:

Yeah I meant Elite 8. They made the Sweet 16 in 81, 87 and 2003. Still not very good considering some seem to think this is yet another nail in the Big East coffin...

Do tell how this actually hurts the Big East. Losing ND hoops? HA...

Rats leaving the ship.

In the last 10 years...

LOST: BC, Cuse, Pitt, Miami, WVU, VT, ND,

ADDED: UC, DePaul, UofL, Marquette, USF, Houston, SMU, UCF, Memphis, BSU, SDSU, Navy.

Lost AND Added (lol again): Loyola, Temple

They keep losing name teams and replacing them with nobodies from non BCS conferences.
