Clarification:

Irish to join ACC in all sports EXCEPT football.

However, ND will play 5 ACC football teams each season.

LOL Big East. LOL.

There's no doubt this isn't good. It's not a nightmare scenario because they weren't involved in the football anyway, but it's not good. They've produced some solid basketball teams and they have been one of the top teams in numerous non-revenue sports since they joined.

They're also the biggest national brand in the conference and the ACC getting them to agree to play FIVE football games per season is a nice image boost for the league.

"I want out and I don't know how to do it." - fake Tom Jurich quote... but he's totally thinking it.

Don't let the door hit ya where the lord split ya...

Do tell how this actually hurts the Big East. Losing ND hoops? HA...

Doesnt hurt football. They never helped Big East football. It does look bad in the national preception.

Big East Basketball is getting softer by the moment.

Yes UL needs to exit stage right. But no one wants my Cards!

Hurts more on the hockey and girls soccer side.

Hockey isn't going to ACC...

How much of this is ESPN again?

This move definitely increases the profile of the ACC, especially with the five guaranteed games against the Golden Domers in football.

Is ESPN going to try to squeeze NBC out of that contract when it's up for negotiation again in a couple years?

I'd guess about 90% ESPN. Trying to damage BEast as much as possible before negotiations open up to NBC...

The hockey conferences are very different. ND has already agreed to move to Hockey East since they got left out when several current WCHA and CCHA teams left to form a Big Ten hockey conference for the first time.

I agree and do not consider them a big loss from a basketball perspective.

That's part of what made me think ESPN had to be involved. I also couldn't imagine they'd willingly give up five football schedule spots without a little prodding from the World Wide Leader.

ND has 3 NCAAT wins in a decade and hasn't made Sweet 16 since 1979. Yippie...
