Why only 1A private schools have to abide by the 20 mile radius? There has been one, yes one, private school champion in football. Why would this not apply to all schools, public and private (though it would be an issue for privates mostly). Seems to be sacrificing the 1A private schools.

 

 

It appears that the 1A schools would live with the 20 mile radius rule rather than the two years ineligibility for students coming from outside feeder system. I'm not sure why they would be required to live by different standards.

Might see an increase there. Maybe a private school rec league in Louisville.

For the recrod, it's not a "way around a rule", it's a way to offer your students an activity, develop their skills, and to prepare them for the future, all within the rules.

Currently the diocese decides designated feeder parishes but there are exceptions (like for single sex schools, and Villa and Latin). Do not know if that changes with this proposal or if it only matters that it be a diocese student. Can't really see telling a Union kid that they can't go to CovCath if St. Henry doesn't offer football.

I would guess that the 1A Catholic schools would not be effected at all by the 20 miles rule. I would guess that most do not have any students residing more than 20 miles away except maybe if you count O'Cath as 1A.

 

However, the Chrisitan schools like Lex. Christian, Heritage, Calvary may have some students from greater than 20 miles away because the students do not have another choice within 20 miles.

Whatever the compromise rule is. I agree that the spirit of the KHSAA and the spirit of the private schools will come into conflict.

But it isn't that easy of a question.

 

The diocese designates parishes to feed a primary high school. That doesn't mean you cannot attend a different one and does not mean you have to pay out of district tuition to do so.

 

For example, if you attend St. Thomas parish in Fort Thomas or Mary Queen of Heaven in Hebron you are not at a Notre Dame feeder parish but you can go to Notre Dame and not pay out of district tutition because it is the only all-girls school. You can also go to Villa or Latin as they do not have feeder parishes because of their academic qualifications.

Or you can go to St. Mary, Sts. Peter and Paul, St. Joe Camp Springs or any Brossart feeder school and attend NCC for in district tuition rates. As mentioned by All Play not all private schools (Brossart included) offer football.

So, do you think that for football, if they go to a CC private Catholic middle school, NCC will be the ONLY choice. If so, NCC has to be loving this. They may get some kids that would have ended up at CovCath or Highlands.

Too bad that for the majority of the state and the KHSAA membership anything other than Prop 20 is a compromise.
