To me, while entertaining, talk radio is such a lesser medium for serious debate.

100% correct.

I still don't get that IU beating UK was technically an upset but really wasn't an upset. .

Now we know. Matt Jones posts on BGP.

If I was Matt Jones and KSR I'd keep doing exactly what they are doing. No one is ever going to take him as a serious journalist at this point, so he's basically hit his ceiling.

Even though Corleone can't follow along and see it I'll state it again. He's done an OUTSTANDING job of building a business.

However, your point about the "serious journalist" is interesting and a bone of contention for me. He likes to think he is a serious journalist UNTIL it's not convenient.

And KSR blatantly made up stories to fuel this...and then when called out for the error, did nothing to retract it.

I hadn't heard this. What stories did KSR make up?

Yeah, my statement definitely wasn't directed towards you Clyde.

As for the serious journalist, I'm certainly not one, but I always felt like they should be unbiased and tell both sides to every story. We both know Matt Jones is not. I like what he puts out there, especially on the website and he's done a great job. But he's not a journalist, just a fan whose found a great way to voice his opinion and get people more excited about UK basketball. All while probably making some money off of it and having a lot of fun experiences along the way! Sounds like a good job to me.

He's basically making a living doing what we do on BGP.

As I said in my email it's a great way to make a living. Beats working.

I hadn't heard this. What stories did KSR make up?
That Boby Knight listed a Top 5 in the Country on Mike and Mike and didn't list Kentucky. 100% didn't happen but even Doyel saw the KSR report and reported it as true, until the actual interview was put up on ESPN.com and everyone heard that it was purely made up.

The post is still up on KSR and no retraction was ever made.

Seriously I totally understand what you're saying. He definitely feeds on the "18 %". I really like to believe that most UK fans are rational, and that Jones, likes to get the 18% all riled up, and it does make UK fans look like complete Hillbilly idiots. I'm still not convinced the reasoning behind everything Jones does isn't money though.

More about being "famous" than anything else...

This is what you've got? I'm fairly certain the truth is in the middle here. Bobby listed some "top teams" in college basketball and didn't mention the #1 (or maybe #2 at the time?) school in Kentucky. So no, he didn't give a "top 5", but he did leave out UK.

If this was a single incident with Knight, then sure, chalk it up to a meaningless omission. However, he clearly proved he was unwilling to even mention Kentucky on air. So while KSR's assertion wasn't 100% correct, they were absolutely correct that Knight was intentionally trying to ignore Kentucky. When he's being paid to be one of ESPN's top on air analysts, this is a problem, and unprecedented among real media.

And this was sort of national news, not just some KSR witch hunt.

Not to mention Knight 100% lied about UK players not attending 2nd semester classes at a luncheon in Indiana. If you're such a stickler for getting the facts right, why don't you have a beef with Bobby?

You're reinforcing the image that UK fans are too concerned about what others think of them. It's unbecoming. It makes us look petty and childish. "He doesn't like me, mommy."

We are so consumed with people “not liking us” ie Billy Packer/Bobby Knight/Pete Thamel/you name it that anytime they mention ANYTHING we (collectively) put our defenses up instead of relaxing a bit, digesting it, analyzing it, and then coming to an intelligent conclusion.

There is ZERO doubt Knight hates Kentucky. The man wouldn't say Kentucky or Anthony Davis on air for a huge part of the season. If you can't accept that as anti-UK bias, then you're as blind as anyone.

Who the hell cares?

Well... umm... YOU?

You did email Matt Jones, right? And then start a thread on BGP, right? And Bobby Knight was included, right?
