What Song Did You Dance To At Your Wedding?

Featured Replies

I've got 6 weddings coming up in the next two months, and as plans slowly start being discussed for my wedding, I've had several conversations about first dance songs for the bride and groom. From those I've heard and those I've witnessed, the selections have ranged from excellent, to downright terrible, to quirky, to awkward, to overplayed, to plain old popular and meaningless.

For those of you who are (or have been) married, what was the song that you and your spouse had your first dance to?

Good friend of mine did Beauty and the Beast's "Tale as Old as Time".

We danced to "Better Together" by Jack Johnson. I really like "Swept Me Away" by Avett Bros, though. My wife agrees w/ that.

Ahhh---bringing back great memories! Ours was unconventional. We were living in Nashville at the time, and had taken some country dance lessons. Our first dance was the Sweetheart Schawdish to "Neon Moon".

"Always and Forever"

One of my all-time faves.

My One and Only Love. Older song but recognizable from the movie "Leaving Las Vegas" by Sting. Coltrane made it famous about 60 years ago.

Completely agree. Or "January Wedding" -- especially if the time fits...
Heatwave or Luther Vandross?

I'm old. Heatwave.

No bigger Luther fan on BGP than me this is only a Heatwave song.

I wasn't exactly sure about your age and the age of the Vandross version, which apparently came out in 1988. I like the original, but I'm definitely NOT a fan of LV's cover.

We didn't dance at our wedding.

Sweet tea, lemonade and cake in the parlor?
Aunt Bea fried some chicken. :D

We had a reception with good food, good friends and family, but it was pretty tame. We didn't have a DJ or music. We were young and paying for most of our own wedding. I don't even remember much of the details other than my wife was stunning and she made me the happiest man on Earth that day.
