August 6, 201214 yr “I’m just telling you right now, I would [cut Tebow], and I’ll tell you why I would,” said Esiason, who deemed the Jets’ acquisition of Tebow a “major” mistake. “It’s not in any way, shape, or form — I think — benefiting this team.” “All you have to do is watch him throw the ball,” said Esiason. “Just watch him. . . . You can say whatever you want about Tim Tebow. He played some of the worst football that any quarterback has ever played in the history of the game last year, at times.” Boomer Esiason: Jets should cut Tim Tebow | ProFootballTalk
August 6, 201214 yr He puts butts in the seats. And keeps the Jets on the front page. They do seem to care about that an awful lot. But he isn't all that good at QB.
August 6, 201214 yr He puts butts in the seats. And keeps the Jets on the front page. Didn't they sell all of their tickets last season?
August 6, 201214 yr Boomer has never been afraid to speak his mind and often times I disagree with him but this is one time I think he may be right.
August 6, 201214 yr They do seem to care about that an awful lot. But he isn't all that good at QB. Didn't they sell all of their tickets last season? I think Tebow is a terrible QB. I think he's on par with Vince Young, whom I would also despise if he were my team's QB. I have no idea if the Jets sold out last year or not. I would have to assume they did. However, I can't believe it's anything more than a headline grab to have him on the roster. Like I have said from the beginning, I think he'd make a terrific TE. And considering the G-men are reigning champs, why not invite the media to have to pick between the Giants or the trainwreck?
August 6, 201214 yr I agree, Tebow has looked horrendous at times. Less than a 50% completion percentage and long stretches on ineptitude. On the flip side the guy has played in 16 games, the equivalent of 1 season. 9-7 overall, 8-5 last year (I am guessing Boomer was well under .500 for his career as QB, but that is for another thread ), has been dissected more than any young QB in NFL history, but you cannot knock the end results. If I told you a QB goes 9-7 through their first 16 games, most people would take that and believe a foundation is in place. With Tebow it is cut bait.
August 6, 201214 yr And no, I would not want him or the distraction on my team. But I would not want to have to play against him either. He does possess a winner's intangible most do not have.
August 6, 201214 yr From Twitter Universe: "It should be noted that Boomer Esiason, who wants Tim Tebow cut, was a cut-worthy 16-27 as a starting Jets QB."
August 7, 201214 yr He puts butts in the seats. And keeps the Jets on the front page. I also heard today that any Tebow jersey sale revenue that is generated outside of the stadium (ie most of it) is split evening amongst the 32 teams.
August 7, 201214 yr I also heard today that any Tebow jersey sale revenue that is generated outside of the stadium (ie most of it) is split evening amongst the 32 teams. Wow. I wonder what that figure is?
August 7, 201214 yr Wow. I wonder what that figure is? Not sure. His jersey was #2 behind Rodgers in 2011.
August 7, 201214 yr Tebow's reply: “I've heard nothing but great things about Mr. Esiason,” Tebow said in remarks distributed by the Jets (via PFT). “I know he was a great player here, and I just wish him nothing but the best in his announcing and God bless him." I'll say it. I want Tebow to be successful. It just feels right.
