This one. And in 2020 I'll want to live in that decade. Same for 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060, 2070.....

As a black man, I have no desire to go backwards.

This. There are two universal truths throughout history: 1) all things can and must change and 2) when they do, on the whole, they generally change for the better.

I've often wondered if I wasn't born 20 years too late.

Would've thought you would want to see the disco era.

Wait a second, what to you mean, what decade would you like to live in? I did live in the 50's!

I was born during the disco era. I've seen enough. :D

Tough to say I'd want to be in a different era that would include one of the WW's.

I agree with this...well, except that I am not a black man. But that was my first thought at seeing the question. I don't want to live in eras in which certain groups of people have less rights than they do now (voting, slavery, slaughter of Native Americans). So, this decade will work for me...and I hope that we keep working toward freedom and doing what's right. :thumb:

1950s

1940s

1920s

1950's: If you were African-American you would be banned and segregated in much of the south. Korean War. Cold War.

1940's: WW II with hundreds of thousands of Americans dying? Rationing.

1920's: One of the most violent decades. Birth of the modern Klan and organized crime took off in the large cities. Capone and company along with the fall of the stock market at the end of the decade. Oh, and prohibition.

I would be one the Klan hated because I would be friends with blacks and not have race a part of my life.

1950s: cool cars, drive inns, happy days, school spirit, sock hops, kids can ride bikes to school or walk to school, kids can play out till after dark without worry of being snatched, leave doors unlocked.

1940s: patriotism, national pride, snow would fall and could shop at 5 & 10 stores for Christmas, kids could still play mostly unthreatened until after dark, end of war celebrations

1920s: prohibition doesn't matter to me, see the flappers, cool cars, baseball, coney park, hike into wildernesses and camp without seeing a million tourist, only radio to listen too, no tv,no phone, no Internet.

More I want the Christmas traditions like it is on A Christmas Story, I am sure it was fun times and way more relaxing.

The straw that broke the camel's back.biggrin.gif

I'll give you credit ref - a thread that is innocent enough on the surface but needs more than a knee-jerk reaction.

A return to "the good old days", or "progress marches on".

As someone who is old enough to remember the JFK assasination, the riots of the 1960s, the first man on the moon, Vietnam, Kent State, Nixon's resignation (a big event in the papa household), the computer age, the election of a Man of color to the Presidency, etc. etc. etc., I can say this.

I can't wait to see what's next.

Innocent enough. I be surprised if you could enjoy all those things you listed if you were friends with blacks and hated by the Klan.

You'd be welcome at my crib anytime though.:thumb:
