July 19, 201214 yr I hear there was a rock slide a while back and 75 South on Jellico is down to one lane. Anyone know how bad the backup is? I'm heading south this weekend to the beach. I'm thinking I might have to get off at Corbin and take 25 to Middlesboro and catch 81. Agree?

It saved us a ton of time..

July 19, 201214 yr Depends on when you go through. I made the trip last Friday and sat in stop-and-go traffic for about 45 minutes starting at about 4:00 pm. My buddy was two hours ahead of me and was through it in 10 minutes.

July 19, 201214 yr We went through on a Sunday a few weeks ago. My parents stayed on 75 & were delayed an hour. We took 25 in Williamsburg & had no troubles.
July 19, 201214 yr One lane going S, two going N. I took 25E to 81 and had no issues. May want to take 25E on your way and stay on 75N on your return. Only issue with the N side is that trucks are instructed to stay in the left lane which can really clog things up. Safe travels.

My buddy was two hours ahead of me and was through it in 10 minutes. I think this is true ... it totally depends on when you are traveling through. Several I know and in my family have made the trip south over the past month and none of them had more than a 20-30 minute delay. However, another person I know said he sat in traffic there for well over an hour. You could stop at the welcome center and ask before you head into it. But if they say it is bad, you have to back track 30 miles to Corbin to get to the preferred alternate route (25E) if going toward Myrtle Beach. Do truckers still use CB radios? This is one of those times when it would be nice to be able to listen in as you are driving and find out the most up to date info. Maybe there is a twitter feed that would provide up to the minute info?
July 19, 201214 yr I made it home to NKy from Myrtle Beach in 9.5hrs taking the Cumberland Gap Pkwy detour..Do what you want but that is pretty good time if you ask me..lol
