July 16, 201214 yr Don't believe everything you read in the paper or online. Are you saying that that didn't happen? I know that situations like this are a he said, she said, but not filing complaints w/ the state swings credibility into the officer and the kids corner.

July 16, 201214 yr If we are banging the statue drum, then let's get Pete's silver slugger and OJ's Heisman and the list goes on.
July 16, 201214 yr If we are banging the statue drum, then let's get Pete's silver slugger and OJ's Heisman and the list goes on. I would make the argument there that the statue is an honor bestowed on JoePa out of respect and appreciation for his commitment and work with the team. The Silver Slugger and Heisman are almost entirely based on physical and statistical accomplishment. You could also make the argument that the statue is a continuing public honor, where the Heisman and the Silver Slugger aren't so continuing or "on display". I'd say that's a little more shakey of an argument though.

July 16, 201214 yr It's time to take down the Joe Paterno statue. Paterno-Sandusky U needs to get back to being a real university. Every time someone looks at it wounds and disgust will open once again. Apparently the Board Of Trustees don't get it still. It's the money. Too bad Alexandria Police Ifficer Mark Branham wasn't on duty at Penn State much suffering could have been avoided. Branham recently exposed issues at Campbell Lodge Kudos to Officer Branham for the good work. Known him for years.
July 16, 201214 yr If we are banging the statue drum, then let's get Pete's silver slugger and OJ's Heisman and the list goes on. I thought that OJ's Heisman was purchased and melted down by Ron Goldman's father?
July 16, 201214 yr ^No clue. I'm just not a fan of combining the on the field competition recognition and personal misconduct. No matter if OJ had his wife pinched or did it himself, he still rushed for all of those yards. Penn State won all of those games regardless of how an asst coach molested kids. Pete still got every one of those hits no matter what or whom he bet on.
July 16, 201214 yr As a matter of fact, let's strip the green jacket from Tiger since he knocked the bottom out of 438 different blondes while married.
July 16, 201214 yr As a matter of fact, let's strip the green jacket from Tiger since he knocked the bottom out of 438 different blondes while married. I'd say Tiger has already seen his green jacket stripped quite a few times.

If OJ's Heisman was 10 foot tall and sitting on display for all to see then maybe you have a point. Also Joe Pa didn't win the statue like a Heisman. It was to honor what he had done for Penn St. That said, I really don't care one way or the other. If the Penn St family can live with it so be it.
July 17, 201214 yr My only point is that the statue and the other things are only tokens of accomplishments in the sporting arena. The personal stuff, while horrid in some instances, are just that,, personal. The sporting accomplishments stand on their own, apart of the personal garbage. If the statue offends I get that. But I just don't think the statue symbolizes anything more than all the good things he accomplished. Regardless of how anyone feels about the recent stuff, to simply ditch all the good things that JoePa did on the gridiron doesn't make sense to me.

I think there are varying degrees of what you're saying. If there was a statue of one of your kids' teachers at their school, and then it turned out that the teacher ended up raping and killing your kid, would you be fine with the statue standing?
