...I thought the death/funeral of Pope John Paul II was a pretty decently big deal as well. I'd put that at very least over Whitney Houston's death on this list. I suppose that could be my identity as a Catholic showing itself, though.

Have to agree with the moon landing, Kent State, Nixon resignation for sure. Others on coldweatherfan's list are pretty memorable also.

 

Probably because those happened during my formative years. I guess if I were younger maybe Whitney Houston's death and the Casey Anthony verdict would be more memorable, but I'd already seen a lot by then.

 

I would also try to get these on the list. The "black power salute" at the 1968 Olympics and the Israeli hostage massacre at the 1972 Olympics.

What about Jack Ruby shooting Oswald in the Dallas Police station, as the World saw for the visit time the man who shot JFK, then saw him get shot live on TV.

What about Clinton's testimony over the Monica Lewinsky scandal? I seem to remember his denial, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky" getting major airplay at the time along with the his equally famous statement, "It depends on what the word is, is."

I was very young but we were watching it when it happened. I couldn't tell what was going on but my dad caught the action immediately and shouted out what happened before the announcers said anything. Very scary.

A big one I remember from my childhood was the earthquake during the world series. It would be much higher on my list than Whitney Houston for sure. I remember watching the Challenger launch live in grade school and even at a young age how stunned silent our class was.

I think I'd pretty easily place the Apollo 11 landing over the White Bronco Chase.

 

I can roll with that. As long as both OJ moments are in the top 10. The White Bronco Case for me was bigger than the verdict. For me, and likely millions of others, the White Bronco Case was his verdict. I wasn't shocked, excited or sad and really don't remember where I was when the verdict was announced. I remember pretty much all details(Lynch, Ky getting drunk with the in laws) with the White Bronco Case. I thought they were going to shoot him on live tv or he was going to shoot himself. OJ Simpson????? No. Way. That was a crazy moment.

My memory of the Challenger is identical. Up until that day we never knew a space shuttle could explode. They never did in our short memories. Until that January day. We didn't do any work the rest of the day. We watched the news in complete silence. I think I was in 7th grade.

So many of these types of lists tend to become pop culture or somewhat current affair type lists.

 

How many people actually remember JFK being shot. I was not quite 1 year old. I have seen a ton of footage and understand the gravity of it but I can't call that a memerable moment, cause I wasn't there.

 

My dad was pretty political so most of my moments, especially the early ones, fall in the political arena, because that's what we watched. Some of these I don't know if they fall as TV moments as much as moments in history.

 

-I remember Neil Armstrong walking on the moon. That is probably my first memorable TV moment.

-Kent State shootings.

-Nixon visiting China.

-Roe v Wade decision.

-Nixon resigning.

-Bicentenial Celebration.

-Jonestown massacre.

-Iranian hostage crisis.

-Ayatollah Khomeini taking power.

-John Lennon assasination.

-Reagan elected. (My first presidential vote)

-US hockey team beating Russia.

-Reagan assasination attempt.

-Micheal Jackson's Thriller video.(I know, pop culture, but it was huge)

 

and none of those you mentioned, would have been covered the way they were if not for the assassination of RFK! The news you see today, was changed that day forever!
