Bob Beamon's jump at the 1968 Olympics (giving my age away again) would be Way up there; he beat the existing record by almost 2 feet; just crazy. And the game that imprinted the NFL onto the collective American consciousness - the 1958 championship game between the Colts and the Giants. Sudden death; the winning TD almost didn't get aired because a cord came unplugged.

I was in my 5th year of teaching and I remember if very vividly. One of the things that was most poignant to me was watching some of my students (I teach high school) grow up before my very eyes as they realized that the world wasn't the naive picture that they had of it as young children.

It was my 6th year and I was in a class with 6 th graders and they were silent. 6th graders are never quit. It was like that all day. Glued to the TV and no talking.

The Kennedy assignation, and funeral would be second on the list if we were only talking about most "polarizing" TV moments. The whole country watched TV for days, it changed the country forever, and it shook Americans to the bone. It was that generation's 9/11. Ask anyone who was around then and they'll tell you exactly what they were doing during those few days.
