July 13, 201214 yr I think I'm taking my 5-2 record down to the ballpark tonight...hoping the boys can get a win.

July 13, 201214 yr Brooks Jacoby? You guys are unreal. These threads are comical. 7th in runs in 2011 (2nd in NL teams) 4th in 2010 (1st in NL teams) Clearly the hitting coach sucks. Edited July 13, 201214 yr by HammerTime
July 13, 201214 yr 7th in runs in 2011 (2nd in NL teams) 4th in 2010 (1st in NL teams) Clearly the hitting coach sucks. 2010 was an awesome year for the Reds offense. 08 and 09 they were 29th in avg. 2011, 14th. this year 20th. Runs are a little bit of a skewed stat when talking strictly hitting.
July 13, 201214 yr The most important part of the game is scoring runs so not sure how a stat of runs scored is skewed. I don't care if they hit .200, you score runs you win games.

But the hittting coach is soley responsble for coaching the art of hitting. I think he performs poorly. I don't like the fact that players like Stubbs and Bruce really haven't improved much hitting the baseball. Edwin never did get it here, leaves, and suddenly the light goes on. I do agree on the Runs stat is being important as a team stat.

I do agree on the Runs stat is being important as a team stat. E-5 is in his 4th year in Toronto and with the same hitting coach as far as I know. The light just now went on for him so I doubt it's a change the hitting coach made. His previous 3 years were terrible. I do agree it seems like some of the players aren't getting better but I think it's on the players not the coach some of the time.

You're other examples are a guy that has never hit MLB pitching well and another that just made the all-star team? The guy who improved in every major offensive category each in each of his first three years in the league. Solid argument.
July 13, 201214 yr In Jacoby's tenure the Reds have hit for a good avg. one season. One season was decent. the others pretty bad. I don't know, maybe they just aren't very good.
July 13, 201214 yr Heading to the game tonight. Much as I dislike Larussa, I miss him not being on the Cardinal bench. No Carpenter to heckle either. Oh well, it's still fun to get worked into a lather over Yadier.
July 13, 201214 yr Lot of ragging on Reds offense here, and deservedly so. Dusty gets his fair share of criticism also. The biggest problem on that bench is none other than Brooke Jacoby. Dude couldn't coach someone to hit a beach ball with a tennis racket. Old EE is glad he got away from him. Just signed a FAT contract. Votto gives Jacoby tons of credit...
July 13, 201214 yr Votto gives Jacoby tons of credit... Awesome. So if he gets credit for the successes. Shouldn't he be accountable for the failures?
July 13, 201214 yr Awesome. So if he gets credit for the successes. Shouldn't he be accountable for the failures? Only if you hear those failures say their hitting coach is terrible. Stubbs is a .261 minor league hitter. No way every hitting coach in the Reds organization is bad. In the end, talent prevails.
July 13, 201214 yr I can't wait for the lineup to come out so we actually have something to complain about.
