September 4, 201214 yr I remember people telling me I was stupid for thinking the Reds could sign Joey Votto to a long term extension. We'll see. Even if he stays in Washington there's no guarantee to get to the playoffs every year. They're set up for long term success but it's not easy. I can't imagine the vet's on that team are too happy.

September 4, 201214 yr In what way did they use him? Started the season with him in the pen, and have since transitioned him to the rotation. He's been the best pitcher, not named Felix Hernandez, in baseball the past month or so.

Great pitcher, sure, but not a legend. You probably should have added in the caveat "but never wins the series" to your previous post - in which case I would agree. Short of winning a title this season, the organization has in effect put in a de facto guarantee to the fans they will win another title(s) in the imminent future with this decision. No matter if this decision to sit Strausburg has anything to with this postseasons outcome.

Even if he did pitch in the post season it doesn't guarantee that the Nationals will make the series? Will Halladay be considered soft if he never wins a Series?
