September 4, 201214 yr Yes, really. Strasburg wants to pitch, but it's not his call. Even if he did pitch in the post season it doesn't guarantee that the Nationals will make the series? Will Halladay be considered soft if he never wins a Series? I wouldn't consider Strasburg soft because it isn't his decision. However, I'd like to see the Nats go to someone like Clemens, Johnson, Schilling, Carpenter.....etc, etc. and tell them they are sitting in the playoffs. Weak.
September 4, 201214 yr As a Reds fan, I'm glad he won't pitch. How the Nats handled this situation makes no sense to me. If Strasburg is on an innings count (which I agree with), it should have been handled differently from Day 1. Move him to the bullpen, send him to the DL, do SOMETHING. Despite what LRCW might suggest, the Nationals NEED Stephen Strasburg on the hill to give them the best shot at winning it all. The Nationals either failed to recognize that or chose to ignore it. Either way, poor decision-making.

All that article does it basically showed how the Nationals management will rest him to keep Boras happy. Unless I missed it, it didn't say Strasburg was not fighting it at all. Here is an article yesterday that talks about how Strasburg will try to fight the decision. So I stick to what I said, it is not Strasburg's decision to not pitch. How do we know that Strasburg isn't going to say that once the time comes and they tell him he is done? The team and the agent care about his future. The team wants him healthy to make sure he helps them win for years to come through his contract, and his agent wants him healthy because he knows Strasburg will get a huge contract one day. When it comes down to it Strasburg really doesn't have much say in it, the team will make the final decision.

I don't have all the data or research the Nationals have when it comes to Tommy John surgery, increasing a pitchers work load from year to year etc.... They obviously feel they are making the best decision for Strasburg, and the Nationals future. Who am I to argue that?
