July 6, 201214 yr So he isnt a specialist exactly but those numbers arent very good either... I think it's better to look at individual game success with relievers. Low numbers cause a big sway in average/ERA/WHIP/etc. In his last 20 appearances he has allowed a runner to reach base in 8 of those. That gives a better picture IMO. By comparison, Chapman has put baserunnrers on in 12 of his last 20 appearances.
July 6, 201214 yr Bottom line is that Marshall can run his breaking ball totally out of the zone on lefties and you simply can't do it to right handed hitters. If that doesn't make him situational, well, I'm not bald.
July 6, 201214 yr It doesn't matter if LRCW is on the mound in the 8th, the Reds should have had a lead. Left way too much, unnecessarily, on the table.
July 6, 201214 yr It doesn't matter if LRCW is on the mound in the 8th, the Reds should have had a lead. Left way too much, unnecessarily, on the table. Correct. This team's offense will be their demise. Votto: No RBIs in 9 straight games and RBIs in only 3 of his last 20. There's the picture of the problem(and it's not Votto).

So what's the answer Clyde? You would rather trade a couple of top level prospects away for a guy like Victorino ( Who isn't exactly have a good year) or another veteran top of the order guy, instead of taking a chance on Hamilton? Or do you feel the pressing need is for another power bat?

There is no good answer due to the market and due to the supposed good option bringing up a A player who has never seen a good breaking ball. So what do you do with what you have? Phillips goes to leadoff, Frazier to 2 while Rolen is out, Votto, Bruce, Heisey.

Working with the current roster I would definitely move Phillips to lead off, and put either Frazier or Bruce in the 2 hole. Maybe flip the two depending if they're facing a lefty or a righty. I would also give Mesoraco more starts.

July 6, 201214 yr Pirates first 19 games after the break are against sub-.500 teams. Hopefully the majority are on the road. The Pirates are 4 games under .500 on the road.
July 6, 201214 yr Agreed on Mes although Hannigan's OBP is 2nd or 3rd on the team. Unfortunately that doesn't help a lot when you're hitting 8th, and are followed by 9, 1, 2
