I lived in Bellevue for a couple of years on O'Fallon Ave - moved out about a year ago. My house was next to an alley, and there were nightly drug deals that went down there - I would personally witness probably 3 a week on average just in coming and going from my house. My next door neighbor used to smoke pot all day long (and I literally mean ALL DAY LONG) on his front porch. I also had a neighbor on the other side of me who everyone in my neighborhood knew full well was a "professional woman".

 

I called the police a couple of times on the pothead neighbor - both times he was out blasting Santana at 1:30am on a weekday night with his friends, and I had to work bright and early in the morning. The police only rolled by and pointed the spot on the patrol car (well, it was a patrol pickup truck actually) at the guys on the porch. The neighbors did turn off the radio and go in the house, but I was still all in all un-impressed by the fact that the officer didn't at least stop and go talk to them...

 

I called the police a good 5 or 6 times about the drug dealing in the alley. Never saw anything happen there with the cops. I did see plenty more drug deals though.

 

Another note...I had my truck broken into twice, and my catalytic converter stolen once - all in the course of living down there for right around 2 years.

 

I'll tell you what, though...if you do go down to Bellevue for the First Friday "Shop Bellevue!" days...the Bellevue police force SURE does a good job of chalking everybody's tires and making sure you don't park anywhere for more than two hours.

The police were chalking tires on cars at the bars to see how long people were drinking at the bars and targeting them when they left. I'm pretty sure that is illegal.

This is becoming the scurge of many once pleasant neighborhoods. Government efforts to decentralize public housing have served only to spread their inherent problems into areas that were once very nice.

 

No kidding, there's a prime example right by our houses.

My Mom's side grew up in Bellevue and it seems to have gone the way of my beloved Woodlawn. Older married couples died, kids moved away from Northern Campbell County, and the void was filled by renters who don't care about the community. Newport faces the same issues. It is sad bc the river cities could be nice, vivrant areas, but they are almost all the same here in Nky. Nice pockets of houses surrounded by really rough neighborhoods.

Well I grew up on O'fallon the 200 block and I turned out fine. My parents still lives down there and there is aot of por smoking but Not out in the open as much as you would think. There are some bad apples everywhere and Bellevue police seem to turn a blind eye to it but the past couple times i have visited I did notice a police truck sitting at the stopsign by 8th street in Dayton. I think they are making more of a presence with the new chief. I personally knew 2 major dealers who lived on Bonnie Leslie up on the Hill so dont tell me its Mayberry up there. The violence is likely an isolated incident and probably some punks high on dope or Drunk just running their mouths. Heck I had many instances growing up on the border of Bellevue and Dayton, its just the way it is. Many Great people on the City who devote countless hours to beautifying the City including my Mom who has maintained the gardens yhroughout the City for over 25 yrs. Her time has been limited the past 5 yrs as she is the caregiver for my father who has dementia. The business district is thriving and many young families and professional couples are residing in historic homes throughout the City. By the way Marijuana comes from the earth.

True story, many nice homes and families up there. I got to know some of them when my brother lived up there. I have some relatives who still live up on the upper part. They should give mom a key to the city at some point. LOL Tireless worker and spends alot of her own money on flower baskets, decorations, etc. She really loves the town.

I am not going to name anyone but atleast one of the kids involved was a Bellevue athlete and along with another kid were apparently picking on another kid who goes to Bellevue. This kid apparently has friends from Newport and decided that he was going to bring in the Newport boys. Big fight erupted and a man got his jaw broken trying to break it up. The 2 Bellevue kids I heard that were involved are known for causing trouble apparently so its no big surprise, however, the fact that one of them is on the football team is alarming. The fact that bats were involved is ridiculous, someone could have died.

This kid apparently has friends from Newport and decided that he was going to bring in the Newport boys. Big fight erupted and a man got his jaw broken trying to break it up. The 2 Bellevue kids I heard that were involved are known for causing trouble apparently so its no big surprise, however, the fact that one of them is on the football team is alarming. The fact that bats were involved is ridiculous, someone could have died.

I dont know maybe student athletes involved in a violent fight involving baseball bats. You think that isnt alarming?

Q, my point being that it could be any student, any where that is involved. Does it matter that it may or may not have been a student athlete? I just thought it unfair to say "on the football team". I agree that fighting and especially use of weapons is horrendous.

It all starts parents, or like there of. Kids today think they can do or say anything and nobody can touch them. We here in M.O are certainly not without problems ourselves.
