^Is that days rest?

Before you declare Dusty Baker a genius answer this question. Isn't that his job as the manager of this team to be able to sense when his players need a break? He gets paid a heck of a lot of money to do just that. It's his job to talk the players and get a sense for how they feel and if anything is bothering them especially with young guys. Veterans are a different story they will let their bodies tell them when they need a break. Anybody can look at stats and run guys out there based on that and we all know that Dusty loves his stats. If you want to give Baker the credit for Votto's tear that's fine. On paper it looks like a good move but let's give Joey a little bit of the credit, he is pretty good isn't he?

I think 94 mph was Chaps top mph. He seems to throw 99.9% fasballs lately.If he can't get his velosity up in the high 90's or triple didgits, the Reds will be looking for another closer. Most major league players can hit fastballs with no movement in the mid to low 90's on a regular basis. Latos throws mid 90's with no movement and you say "he sucks". Righty,lefty, what's the difference?

 

It didn't matter if he threw all fastballs. If he threw all sliders. If he took his friggin glove off and threw it right handed. He couldn't find the plate. When you're struggling to keep it in the zone, and playing cat and mouse with Choo at first base, you eventually leave it in the zone at 96, major league hitters are gonna whack you. And he did, and he's human, and he didn't have his best velocity tonight and it didn't matter if he was in the 10th, or if he was in the 4th.

Yes it does matter if he threw all fastballs or all sliders. If your money pitch is 100mph fastball and your throwing 94 mph, the batter doesn't have to worry about ANY off speed pitches and can wait for that cookie to be served up, just like what happened in the 10th inning. If you can't get your fastball over the plate, your surely not going to get a curve or slider over. It does matter that last night was in the tenth inning, you can figure that out, right?

Very little difference in 0,1 or 2 days of rest. He is at his best on 3 days of rest but the IP are limited.

 

More runs on 0 Days rest than on 1 or 2.

I said that the other night when he wasn't available for whatever reason and Marshall closed but I was thinking he pitched the night before when I said the 95 mph post. I'm getting my days mixed up.

If you're banging the "he should start" drum, what will be your refrain when he can't find the plate in the first inning? He needs to be middle relief?

 

I'm banging the naming Chapman the closer was useless he should have been pitching about the same amount of time sometimes in the 9th but it's ok to use him in the 7th drum. It's a weird shaped drum.

Like I said earlier, if your closer can't go 2 or 3 days in a row he shouldn't be closing.

Since you have the spread sheets do you have appearances and amount of days of the season before and after being named the closer?

 

I think it might have to do with pitching more often in the amount of days rather than straight he isn't good on back to back. He very well may have had this hickup not being named closer. They were very protective of him early fearing this may happen. It was another reason I was against it. Marshall wasn't terrible as the closer, he wasn't great either. Now that they let him know they don't think he is a good closing by demoting him can he do it again if Chapman needs extended rest?
