June 20, 201214 yr  You sure embellish a lot for a guy that has a life. Like I stated numbers show he has no problem pitching consecutive days. Keep harping on the consecutive day stuff. He's nowhere near as good now and he's been used more than when nobody could touch him. I'm not saying he can't pitch back to back days. The Reds said they didn't want to use him back to back. Numbers say 4 of the last 6 times the untouchable has been touched. For the record I'm at work. I have plenty of down time here. Thanks for the concern.
June 20, 201214 yr Since you have the spread sheets do you have appearances and amount of days of the season before and after being named the closer? I think it might have to do with pitching more often in the amount of days rather than straight he isn't good on back to back. He very well may have had this hickup not being named closer. They were very protective of him early fearing this may happen. It was another reason I was against it. Marshall wasn't terrible as the closer, he wasn't great either. Now that they let him know they don't think he is a good closer by demoting him can he do it again if Chapman needs extended rest? I could but that would just be manual work I don't feel like doing.

He's not going to get extended rest as a reliever, whether he pitches as a set up man or a closer.

June 20, 201214 yr I'm not the one harping on the consecutive days stuff. You and HT are. Dusty said it, I was just stating if that is the case he shouldn't be your closer.
June 20, 201214 yr I'm not the one harping on the consecutive days stuff. You and HT are. The Reds are the ones that said they didn't want to do it and they either didn't use him that way or rarely used him that way. I don't think it was because they thought he would get killed every single time he went out the 2nd day. I think they thought his arm would eventually get tired causing him to lose speed and location. Maybe they were right.
June 20, 201214 yr Dusty said it, I was just stating if that is the case he shouldn't be your closer. And I was just stating it hasn't, and shouldn't be the case. I've said from day 1 I wanted Chapman as a starter, but I agreed with spindoc if he's going to be used in the pen it should be as the closer.
June 20, 201214 yr Bronson have given up 12 HR and 21 RBI in 91 AB vs Cleveland hitters. Hitting .363/.376/1.212
June 20, 201214 yr Boxberger is also only 24 years old and in his first year above AAA. Grandal is a switch hitter. I'll bet if you ask 1000 people today the vast majority would tell you that it looks like a bad deal. Look at these stats year-to-date and remember that Volquez pitches for the worst team in baseball so the record is going to be pretty bad. Eerily similar to this point. GS QS CG W L K BBi INN HA ERA WHIP Latos 14 5 0 5 2 70 26 79.2 86 5.20 1.41 Volquez 15 8 0 3 7 76 51 87.2 73 4.11 1.41 That is the difference between us ... you are passing a judgment on a deal barely two months into the season. I'm making a judgment based on the talent of the players involved. If the deal was suddenly reversed, what would the Reds do with Alonso? He would rot on the bench or toil away in Triple-A. Volquez, like all pitchers, has benefitted from pitching the majority of the time in Petco Park. Boxberger would be in the minors, as would Grandal. The Reds are in win-now mode, and understandably so ... they made this trade to win now, and I bet later in the year you would rather have Latos on the roster than Volquez. And that's what this trade amounts to at the moment.

June 20, 201214 yr I think at least 4 were to Choo. Yep 4 HR and 7 RBI hitting .500 and slugging 1.583. 4 were also by Grady Sizemore.
June 20, 201214 yr Yep 4 HR and 7 RBI hitting .500 and slugging 1.583. 4 were also by Grady Sizemore. I expect Masterson to be tough on the Reds tonight. Giving Bronson's history against the Indians, I'm already chalking this one up as a loss. Hopefully the Reds can put some more ground between themselves and the Pirates this weekend when the Reds host the Twins, and the Pirates play the Tigers. I'll be attending a show at Alabama theatre tonight, and won't be able to keep up without getting that look from the wife.

I've said from day 1 I wanted Chapman as a starter, but I agreed with spindoc if he's going to be used in the pen it should be as the closer. But what if his arm gets tired from being used too many times a week? Isn't that where they might be and why they didn't want to use him two days in a row?
