June 21, 201214 yr I flipped the game on, saw Damon hit a 2 run HR and flipped it back off. Glad I stopped watching when I did.

June 21, 201214 yr I'm in WV tonight so no Reds game on TV. Glad that's the case. Watching the Bieber special instead.
June 21, 201214 yr Didn't get to see a bit of the games but with only 3 hits for and 8 runs against I guess it was a pretty embarassing performance. Now they know how it feels to get swept in a series.
June 21, 201214 yr That is the difference between us ... you are passing a judgment on a deal barely two months into the season. I'm making a judgment based on the talent of the players involved. If the deal was suddenly reversed, what would the Reds do with Alonso? He would rot on the bench or toil away in Triple-A. Volquez, like all pitchers, has benefitted from pitching the majority of the time in Petco Park. Boxberger would be in the minors, as would Grandal. The Reds are in win-now mode, and understandably so ... they made this trade to win now, and I bet later in the year you would rather have Latos on the roster than Volquez. And that's what this trade amounts to at the moment. Several points to add here to the bolded above. 1. Trading Alonso did not bother me. It was the total mount of talent or potential talent that they gave up for Latos that bothered me. 2. Latos didn't benefit from pitching in Petco? 3. Boxberger was one of the fastest rising young pitchers in the organization. Given more time, which he would have gotten here, he could prove to be a good addition to the team. 3. Grandal was the player I hated to see them give up on. Mesoraco is no given to be a star at this level and Grandal was insurance just in case. 4. Why are the Reds in win-now mode? Maybe you thought they were when it looked like they would not attempt to sign Votto and Phillips. That was not the case as it turned out was it? This is a young team that has very good talent locked up long term.
June 21, 201214 yr ...your team is in first place? Not for long playing like they did the last 3 days.
June 21, 201214 yr 2. Latos didn't benefit from pitching in Petco? 2011 Home vs Away splits ERA 3.24 v 3.68 AVG .231 vs .235 WHIP 1.15 vs 1.22 HR 8 vs 8
June 21, 201214 yr 2011 Home vs Away splits ERA 3.24 v 3.68 AVG .231 vs .235 WHIP 1.15 vs 1.22 HR 8 vs 8 Those home numbers look pretty darn good to me. I'd say he benefitted from pitching at home.
June 21, 201214 yr Those home numbers look pretty darn good to me. I'd say he benefitted from pitching at home. Barely.
June 21, 201214 yr Those home numbers look pretty darn good to me. I'd say he benefitted from pitching at home. Barely. If someone is trying to say Latos success is a product of Petco I would say the numbers do not bear that out.
June 21, 201214 yr If someone is trying to say Latos success is a product of Petco I would say the numbers do not bear that out. Isn't that what they always try to say?
June 21, 201214 yr 4. Why are the Reds in win-now mode? Maybe you thought they were when it looked like they would not attempt to sign Votto and Phillips. That was not the case as it turned out was it? This is a young team that has very good talent locked up long term. The Reds were in win-now mode when they made the trade, and they remain that way.
June 21, 201214 yr If someone is trying to say Latos success is a product of Petco I would say the numbers do not bear that out. He also played a lot of games in LA and SF which are also pitchers parks, but then COL and AZ are hitters parks so I guess that would cancel out...I dont feel like looking but I wonder what his numbers are in NL West parks compared to everywhere else he has pitched in his career...Latos is young and talented and Im not on either side as far as the Petco factor goes, my only feelings are the Reds gave up a bit to much...
