I'm in Gatlinburg now. Only the second time I've been here. I can't remember my favorite places to eat the first time I was here but my favorites this time are (in order).

 

The Old Mill (Very good southern cooking, I recommend the fried chicken)

Partridge in a Pear Tree (Beautiful restaurant--Christmas theme, only open until 4pm---had the fried catfish, was great)

The Apple Barn (similar to the Old Mill but I give the edge to the Old Mill)

Mellow Mushroom (chain pizza joint but very good)

The Pancake Pantry (great breakfast place)

 

My two favorite places to eat. Did you get a dessert at Partridge in a Pear Tree? They have great desserts.

 

I'm so old that when we first started going (haven't been for quite a while now), Dollywood was called Silver Dollar City.

 

Remember that well.

I would also recommend eating at The Alamo. Prices a tad bit high but they have the greatest burger you will ever eat.

Smoky house brewery is good.

I personally am not fond of the Applewood. Been there twice, won't go back.

Used to go to Applewood quite a bit in the past. It was very good. However, I'd say in the last five years it's food and quality have suffered and certainly isn't as good as it was. I haven't been back for several years. Same goes with The Peddler Steakhouse, no where near as good as it was. Even the Calhoun's in downtown Gatlinburg has gone downhill in my opinion.

Clingmans Dome offers a great view but the ash borer has really ravaged the surrounding trees.

 

Went there 2 days ago. what a view. Trees are asking a good comeback.

We had a great trip to Cades Cove. Got there about an hour before dark, which is perfect for seeing a lot of wildlife. Saw at least 50 deer, several wild turkeys and about 7 bears.

 

We saw a bunch of deer, several turkey and 3 bears tonight.

Calhoun's for ribs in Gatlinburg is great. Nice selection of other items too but i can never pass up the ribs. They have a location in Pigeon Forge now too but i have never tried it.

 

Apple Barn and Old Mill are both awesome.

 

The Mellow Mushroom pizza in Pigeon Forge is unique if you have never eaten at one.

Is there Yuengling on tap everywhere?

I ate at Calhoun's in Pigeon Forge last weekend and it was good, but not as good as the Gatlinburg location in my opinion.

 

They did bring us a unique bread bowl to start off with. It had cornbread, rolls and biscuits in it and they were all good, especially the cornbread.

 

The slaw is really good but the baked beans leave a lot to be desired, they have a kind of a chili powder taste, which is not the type of baked beans I want with bar-b-q.
