Post-it note senior prank: Custodian gets fired

Post-it note senior prank: School lifts suspensions for seniors | Indianapolis Star | indystar.com

What began as a seemingly harmless senior prank led to the suspension of at least 50 students and the firing of one custodian at Cascade High School in the small town of Clayton, Ind.

Six students were suspended for two days after they put more than 11,000 press-and-stick notes Monday night in various places inside the school building — apparently with the knowledge of a Mill Creek Community School board member. And Kim Rouse, the custodian working Monday night, lost her job.

The suspensions, which happened Tuesday, angered several other students, parents and alumni, saying Cathy Tooley, principal of the 533-student school, and district Superintendent Patrick Spray went overboard in their decisions.

“Students are outraged that we got suspended over sticky notes," said 18-year-old Saxton Archer, who's one of the first six who got suspended.

Those students did — about 50 of them — did not go to class today. Instead, they gathered in front of the school to protest. They, too, were suspended for two days for “refusing to comply with administrators’ directives,” Spray said.

Spray said although the prank was harmless, the students violated the school's code of conduct by trespassing on school property outside of regular school hours.

That prank was weak.

Call me when someone builds an ice mountain in front of the main school entrance. Then I'm impressed.

:D :D :D

Wow. Fired the custodian too? Crazy.

Especially considering a school board member had prior knowledge of the prank.

Lawsuit. Where's Deters?

Lame Prank...I've heard and seen much worse without the mass Suspensions...They should have just been laughed at for something so Minor and uncreative...

Personally, I thought it was hilarious...it was over 11,000 post it notes. Being an avid post-it-noter, I love it!

And the suspensions were lifted, and the custodian wound up keeping his job.

Good! Finally common sense prevailed.

Our senior prank was a million times better. :D

Indeed.

I always wanted to paint over the lines in the parking lot.
