April 30, 201214 yr Simple fact that hes right now IMO the best bullpen stopper in the game right now, whether it be to hold a lead for the closer, or to stop the bleeding. If you throw him out there for 6 innings every 5 days, 1. I have concerns about his arm, 2. batters will figure him out alot quicker, and who knows how good he really will be. Right now he is doing really well in his role, if its not broke, dont fix it. While you have a good point, as a reliever he only needs a couple of pitches. He has more than a fastball and a slider but he doesn't need them in relief. As a starter he would use all of his pitches to his advantage.

Desmond I have a hard time making an argument for other than him being younger and I feel like he is still getting better and always hasn't been on a very good team...Castro is obviously the best NL SS right now in my mind and is only 22 years old... 162 Game averages... AVG HR RBI 2B 3B SB Castro .306 7 64 38 8 22 Age 22 Tulo .292 28 103 35 5 12 Age 27 Reyes .290 12 64 34 15 57 Age 28 This year... Castro is producing better than anyone especially Reyes who is really struggling...He had a strong year last year but he isn't durable and I think he is aging faster than he really is...I also feel like Tulo is going to start declining, however they are all top 5 imo and that isn't a bad thing...
April 30, 201214 yr Rolen is pretty valuable to this team even without much offense. Why do 3B have to put up huge offensive numbers? I agree with you on this and that is why I suggested that maybe in a couple of years that Hamilton be at 2nd and Phillips might slide over to 3rd. Phillips could provide great defense and maybe not having to work as hard as he does at 2nd could provide some pretty good offensive numbers. He wouldn't have to hit 15-20 HRs but maybe be a good RBI man. Dusty does seem to like him a lot in the 4 hole.
April 30, 201214 yr Why is everybody so quick to drop Hamilton into the outfield mix? As far as I know he hasn't played anywhere but ss and 2b with the Red's organization. If they plan to use him in the outfield wouldn't it make sense that they start getting him some experience there first. I know it's easier to make an outfielder out of an infielder but there is a lot for him to learn before he plays the position. Because he is going to blocked at SS most likely (Cozart/Didi), OF makes the most sense.

I think he is being projected to be with the big club by 2014. Left field would be a waste for his talent level imo so it would need to be center field to make sense.

I would say the switch would be made at AAA if it were to happen. Still a lot of if's to figure out.

I would love to see Votto and Bruce back to back when facing Righties at least...This imo would give opponents managers fits and limit pitching around Votto to get to Phillips in high pressure situations...There are more Right handed Pitchers than Left and both Votto and Bruce rake pretty good versus righties...Votto would see better pitches assuming Bruce stays hot, most teams arent scared of BP even though he is dangerous at times...Id have to think Righties would hate facing the back to back Lefies in Votto and Bruce...

We'll just have to wait and see. He's already had one pretty long rough stint this year. Now he's back to his time where he's as tough as anybody to get out.

It isn't like he's going to suddenly become a .220 hitter. With his power they aren't just going to want to put Votto on to get to him, he's far too dangerous and no one knows when he's going to go on one of his hot streaks. I'd much rather have someone with his skill set in that spot than someone who is definitely not suited for it like Phillips.
