Right, so why does one's offensive numbers matter with the position they play? If one is able to play, why does it matter if he's doing it from the 3B or SS position? It doesn't is the correct answer.

It matters when you're putting together a baseball team.

 

Cozart's bat is just fine for a shortstop, where his defensive ability at a critical position enhances his value. The defensive demands for a third baseman are lower, which means you can generally find a better bat to handle the position.

I would move Didi to AAA now and Hamilton to fill in Didi's spot at AA very soon. Find somewhere else for Janish to play in AAA.

I don't see any reason to do that but it seems clear that Hamilton needs to move a step up. Janish can play other places and is nice to have around. I'd rather have him than Willie Harris.

I wonder how long it will take for you to warm up to Cozart? You never have thought much of the kid...I believe it was you that compared him to Paul Janish...He hit last year and so far he is the top Rookie in the NL of players that have actually got a good bit of ABs...Actually I would say he is in the Top 5 SS in the NL regardless or age...I would say 1.Castro 2.Tulo 3.Desmond 4.Reyes 5.Cozart then Rollins, Gordon, Tejada, Furcal etc...

I didn't compare him to Janish. I've only said he won't be the impact offensive player that some here were projecting him to be.

The past few years no, but in the present yes Castro is a better SS than anyone in the NL and Desmond is as well...

Set up guy with our current pitching staff. Nice one two punch of Champman and Marshall. If they could add a third, would be a nice case of, dare I say, Nastyness..........shades of the past.

I'd be willing to bet the players on the Reds feel Rolen is very valuable to the success of the club.

I would simply prefer a guy that actually gets it done on the field ...

Stubbs in LF and Hamilton on CF would be my guess. I love the look of that lineup.

 

Why is everybody so quick to drop Hamilton into the outfield mix? As far as I know he hasn't played anywhere but ss and 2b with the Red's organization. If they plan to use him in the outfield wouldn't it make sense that they start getting him some experience there first. I know it's easier to make an outfielder out of an infielder but there is a lot for him to learn before he plays the position.
