March 14, 201214 yr Yes, "people like me" believe that Charlie Strong would leave Louisville in a heartbeat for Florida, Alabama, LSU, or some other elite program. I don't think Cal will leave Kentucky for any other college program, but I absolutely believe that he'd leave Kentucky for New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Los Angeles or Miami (with Lebron). And I believe that people like Charlie Strong have been shafted for so long that he has a sense of loyalty none of us can understand. He didn't skyrocket to head coachdum like...oh...say Petrino. He was passed over and over and over. That changes how you feel about jumping ship for the "next big thing". And, frankly (arguably), he has the best, most commtted AD in the country.
March 14, 201214 yr Glad he feels that way. I have heard it before from other coaches that left so I hope he keeps his word. The fact that he said it to all of the recruits makes me wonder if he's heard that other coaches are telling recruits that they think he's going to be leaving UK for the NBA this year or next. Dirty tactics but wouldn't surprise me.
March 15, 201214 yr Comparing UL football to UK basketball is like comparing Walmart and Neiman-Marcus.
March 15, 201214 yr Comparing UL football to UK basketball is like comparing Walmart and Neiman-Marcus. Not comparing the sports. Comparing the words of coaches.
March 15, 201214 yr Not comparing the sports. Comparing the words of coaches. Gotcha. I think the odds of Coach Strong leaving for another college job are much, much greater than Cal leaving for another college job. Where else would Cal go? CS is at the checkpoint on his way to the summit.

March 15, 201214 yr FWIW, in the interview at the Memphis airport a couple of days before he was introduced as UK's head coach, Cal told the media something to the effect of "keep your season tickets" when asked about what the next year's team would look like. This doesn't make me feel any more confident he's staying. I wish I had the faith of some of you other guys/gals, but I've heard this line from Cal before...right before he became our coach.

Dirty tactics but wouldn't surprise me. Of coarse other coaches are doing that. When you are the best at recruiting others will do and say everything they can to knock you down. Making up anything that they can get away with to make themselves look good and you look bad.

He didn't want people to stop supporting the program just because he was leaving!
March 15, 201214 yr The Knicks are a mess right now. I don't know why you would want to coach that team.I think the Knicks can land a much more proven NBA coach than Cal. I'd be shocked if he is even "informally" offered the job. The job opening that scares me the most is if Spoelstra leaves. LA, Boston, and NY Knicks don't scare me that much at all as they are "historic" programs with a good core so I don't feel they will gamble on Coach Cal. Miami is a superstar program and I think LeBron could easily convince Wade and Bosh to rally the FO to go after Cal. That would be a very hard job for Cal to turn down.

I wish I had the faith of some of you other guys/gals, but I've heard this line from Cal before...right before he became our coach.I'm with you. The one good thing we have is that Cal doesn't have another college "dream job" like Roy Williams and Carolina. If Cal leaves it will be to the NBA or because of NCAA violations.

If one of the big boys come calling with their checkbook out Strong will be gone.
