Wow what a shocker and a great loss for NCC. It will be very difficult for anyone to replace him. He is a really outstanding coach and a great person.

Ron is and was awesome. Great player, coach, and human being.

George has been learning from Ron since Ron took over. He's ready.

He's 56 and he's got the hair of an 18-year-old!

He has grandkids getting to that age. I don't blame him for wanting to coach them, if this is the reason.

 

Also, it is very classy for him to leave right now. NewCath is on the up swing in girls bball. He didn't wait for the current Frosh and Sophs to pass through before he handed over the reigns. Says a lot about him.

Does Stoll teach at Newport Central? Was this a money saving issue? They hired a 24 year old and his head coaching experience is an 8th grade team? It could be an easy transition since philosophies should be similar since he has been on the bench for 4 years.

Coaching the kids won't be his issue, my guess is dealing with the parents will be. Basketball is a hard sport to coach when only 5 play at a time. Hard for the parents in the stands to grasp that sometimes when little Suzie is involved.

I haven't seen Dawn coach the girls team, but I always liked what he did when he coached the boys. Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do in his retirement.

I feel Coach Stoll will do a good job. He has coached JV and I am sure there have been disappointed parents and players. My experience with NCC is they play to win. No politics involved. They put the 5 best on the floor that will get the job done. I have heard a couple parents complain of favortism but I personally havent encountered it. They complain St Joes and St Therese girls play over all the others. If your good and hustle you will play regardless what school you came from.

Mr. Dawn is cool but George is too young. I have shoes older than him.

I find it interesting that the administration did not throw the job out there to see what interest they might get from other qualified coaches first. Nothing against their decision, if they think Coach Stoll is the one, but there might be other good choices out there to choose from.

Coach Shields probably has no interest in coaching high school ball again. He has too many grandkids to enjoy and to coach in grade school.

 

Are you talking about Christie McDonald??? I don't think she is interested either. She does a great job coaching grade school as well and is probably content to do that.

NCC has a way of changing generations from time to time in regards to teachers/coaches and when they replace a coach due to retirement it usually is someone very young who is commited to the NCC family for life.

 

I think they just did the same thing with their football coach a few yrs ago as well. Coach Schneider retired after 81 yrs of coaching and Coach Eviston steps into a winning program with "no head coaching experience" whatsoever and he has done fairly well to say the least.
