Casey Brockman, 6-2, JR QB from Calloway County. Brockman was 15-20 for 200 yards, 4 TDs, (3 passing/1 rushing), 0 INT, 30 yards rushing, as Lakers bounced #1 Mayfield 40-7 at Mayfield in state's biggest upset of the weekend. Brockman has 17 passing TDs and 4 rushing TDs on the season.

Nice comments from the Mayfield faithful. BIG win for the Lakers that hopefully gets them respect they've been looking for. CC needed it for confidence after 3 very close losses. Looked like Mayfield was flat early and CC just pounded them. Jumped out 14-0 on two TD passes and the air show opened up the run. Score was 14-7 at half but Lakers dominated. Lakers had two long well-mixed TD drives in 3Q that ate clock and wore down Cardinals defense. Two more 4Q scores underscored the dominance. Brockman about 200 passing yards with 4 TD (3 pass, 1 rush, 0 INT). Willis (@130) and Bumpus (@105, 2 TD) both big games at RB. Garner two TD rec. Laker defense was also aggressive and impressive. Despite class difference this win was big for CC due to the tradition of winning that surrounds Mayfield program. Lots of friends across both teams and they were all respectful and hugs in post-game line...the way it should be. Laker fans thought the game winnable, but surely nobody could have imagined this score.

Westsider: this has been discussed and documented already, but since you asked. 2nd play of game vs. Trigg was 65 yd CC TD that was incorrectly called back on illegal pass by out of position judge (TV replay clearly confirmed pass thrown from behind line of scrimmage). Game was still 35-34 with 4:00 left and CC with ball. Could easily have been different outcome. Game vs. Marshall was coin toss. Pass interference end zone no-call (face guarding) on first drive was important. Lakers came up empty on that drive. Shakiest of the three calls in question. Lone Oak win was earned by CC when they scored on Garner reverse with 3:00 left that was incorrectly called back on phantom hold. Flag tossed by out of position back judge (2nd varsity game) while side judge on the play tried to talk him into picking up the flag. Just ask the officiating crew and they will admit it. That would have salted the win for Lakers with a 2 TD lead. Certainly other plays throughout all games can impact outcomes. All I said was the Lakers were 3 plays from being 6-0. That's still a true statement. Hope Friday night's a good game for both teams and that neither team suffers injuries since important district and post-season games loom on the horizon. Do think the Lakers are improving with every game especially the defense. Hope the trend continues.

Don't think Lakers will be intimidated. Still think this will be a good game. INTs haven't been a problem with the Lakers in some time. I think they've only had 3 or so in the last four games and QB only trails Robinson in passing in the region. Look for a close game. Not taking anything away from Mayfield since they're playing well and are solid. Just think CC is getting the Rodney Dangerfield treatment - no respect - at least from the fans around the region. Give em back three blown calls and they would be 6-0 against some good competition and would be the talk of west Ky. Calloway has nothing to lose in this game.

Has potential to be a great game. Mayfield has speed to try to man-up in secondary but can't sell out to pass with a bunch of healthy Laker RBs. Sr. Trey Travis might be at 100% for first time this year after two weeks to heal. Lakers airshow has seen blitz packages from several teams and has shown they know how to deal with it and have the weapons to do so. Question is how Laker defense responds. Good Mayfield team vs. probably underrated Calloway club. If Armstrong is totally healthy and goes both ways that tips it in favor of Cardinals. Upset would get Calloway deserved votes in rankings. Game doesn't mean that much to either since it's not a district contest but will be fun for all. Good to see the neighbors playing again after many years absence.

Westsider: apologies for attributing the time management to someone else. Wasn't going to blow this up fully on this thread, but you asked, so now feel compelled to put the issue out. Question for BP posters: What would happen at your field and with your fans and players if an opposing player ran to midfield and stuck their school flag in your logo after a hotly-contested overtime loss? This after the visiting team refused to shake hands after the game. This is exactly what happened after the Lone Oak - Calloway game Friday night. It was not a "sue them" issue, as you smartly referred to. It was very nearly a courtroom brawl right on the field until Calloway's coaching staff stepped in. And, I'm sure CC's players and coaches won't take it lightly next time they meet anywhere.

Westsider - Lakers did manage the ball pretty well at the end of the game. Unfortunately, they had TWO TDs called back in same drive on hotly disputed calls in last 3:00 of the game. Both were holding. One was in broad daylight and was CLEARLY a miscall on great downfield block that defender flopped on. The other was on the end, but was not even close either, as confirmed on Laker TV Replay Show. Still a great win for Lone Oak for validation for their team. This is a good Calloway team that could easily be 5-0 instead of 2-3. The two teams are very evenly matched and should meet again in November. The post-game antics by Lone Oak players at mid-field will serve as inspiration should the next meeting take place.

Westsider: give ya that one on the officiating. I don't think either team was happy with the calls throughout the game. Yes, Robinson did make some nice touch passes. If Lone Oak is #6 in the state, then Calloway deserves to be ranked too. Big win for the Flash, obviously. Calloway is trying to dig out of a series of miserable seasons too and this game, even in a loss, should be something for them to build on. Truth is, 3-4 plays are the difference from Calloway being 5-0 this year. Tough loss for the kids emotionally, but they can hopefully regain confidence after reviewing the films. Rematch will be a great one if it sets up.

Lone Oak better? No - just not much difference. Yes, better by 6 in OT tonight. But game could still have gone either way. Calloway has more offensive weapons. Difference is line play, which goes to Lone Oak. Robinson had all night to throw. Def pressure was sporadic at best. Calloway secondary did a good job for the length of time they had to cover LO receivers. Assessment on QBs? Robinson throws lots of jump balls to Brown. Brockman spreads it out more on long and touch passes, and under more pressure. It will be another barn burner if they meet again, I'm sure. Again, blown ref call on CC touchdown - and Calloway fumble with 1:35 remaining on 3rd down - were both big.

Game could have easily gone either way. Lakers went up 21-0 at half and couldn't hold on late without Tyrrell Willis on def. He went out with rib injury in 4Q and Laker defense was in scramble mode rest of the way. No difference between the two clubs, IMO. A bad wide-open call (nobody has disputed it as bad call on other sites) with about 3:30 left cost the Lakers a TD that would have iced the game in regulation. Open downfield clean pancake block by Laker QB on LO QB was called illegal by out of position ref. Two TDS were actually called back on that same drive. Good comeback for LO. Robinson and Brockman both will show big numbers and ran their teams very well in big-game situation. Unfortunately, poor post-game sportsmanship nearly resulted in fight. Wildly celebrating LO students put flag in ground in midfield logo. CC coach got on the field before the CC students and prevented a possible riot. LB/RB Tyrrell Potential rematch in the playoffs would be a dandy!

Lakers have shown their offense is as balanced as any in West KY. Brockman has put up good numbers and they have 2 outstanding receivers in Dobbins and Garner and 2-3 more very capable. If they have to run it, they now have a stable of healthy backs in Willis, Bumpus, Travis and Hargrove. Travis still was not back to full strength vs. Marshall and was used sparingly on offense but had 14 tackles at LB. Ground game will eat the clock and passing game is there if needed. Unnoticed is fact that CC defense has shown steady improvement weekly, holding Marshall's potent offense to under 300 yards and Williams to less than 100 yards for the first time in forever. That improving D could be the difference in the game unless Lone Oak can somehow muster up a running game. LO still gets its points because Robinson is good and has a go-to receiver. Game might be closer than you think. Murray's run defense is pretty good. If Trigg gets any passing offense it's over quick. Trigg Co. 28-14.

Calloway used evening to sharpen passing game and workout new backs since starting RBs Tyrrell Willis (flu) and Trey Travis (ankle) didn't even dress out. Casey Brockman tosses for about 250 yards and 3 TDs (another dropped) between George Garner and Chris Dobbins. Reserve RB Jordan Bumpus scores 3 on the ground to make case for more PT. Soph Austin Hargrove also impressive. Lakers pulled starters with 3:00 to go in 3Q to keep from making Rockets' night/season even worse.

Calloway 56 Crittenden 14 Too much Laker O for a battered Rocket bunch.

Trigg Co. has too many weapons and too much speed. Wildcats win 35-20.

Murray 35 Caldwell 14 Murray will win big if they stay with Therrell at QB.

CCHS still playing without services of another outstanding sr. RB Trey Travis, who will be back from ankle sprain in another week or two. Congrats on solid game by good Trigg County club too. Calloway-Lone Oak should be fun game.

How's Trigg's pass defense? Lakers tossed it around a bunch vs. Murray and Hoptown did not test Trigg in the air. Trigg is solid, but Calloway should provide a more balanced attack. Lakers improve significantly on the ground this week with Travis returning healthy to complement Willis. Travis only rushed three times against Murray for 20+ yards and then came out. Should be good game.

Calloway-Heath scrimmage uneventful on both sides. Travis did look good with every defender keying on Willis. Willis did not have a great game but will have a great year. Remember he's only a sophomore and is still learning. Travis turned an ankle but will definitely be playing Friday night vs. Murray. CC showed they have plenty of ground and passing weapons to keep defenses honest. The Calloway-Christian game was tied varsity at three scores each a week earlier.
