Also, from host Al Mayo:

Sorry I'm a bit tardy getting back to you guys but, I'm here now.

First of all, this award applies only to VARSITY players.

Whenever you place a name for nomination, I need the following to be listed.

Player name, position, class (Soph, jr, sr. etc).

Stats for the week's performance. Carries, yards gained pass att/comp...tackles etc.

Please do not estimate stats. Just telling me a player may have run for 150 yards, won't make the cut.

Ideally a listing would look like this---

"Bob Smith a 5'1" Tailback from Smithville High School gained 100 yards on 10 carries. He also caught 4 passes for 30 yards in a 14-0 win over Jones High School"

OR

Bob Smith, a 5'1" QB from Smithville High School completed 15 of 20 passes for 100 yards, and 1 TD as the Smiths beat Jonesville 14-0.

Otherwise, post as many players as you like if you think they merit a mention. ALL Players listed will be used on the show as nominees, so their stats and performace will be included. A Ploayer Of The Week will be chosen from the weekly nominees.

Thanks in advance for the help, and have a GREAT season!

'Win would've been nicer'

Tates Creek's Sparks is first 400-yard rusher in losing effort

By Mike Fields

HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

Tates Creek's TySparks became the latest Kentucky high school football player to rush for at least 400 yards in a game when he zigged and zagged his way to 403 yards on 45 carries against Madison Central last week.

But Sparks is believed to be the first running back to eclipse the 400-yard mark in a losing effort (Madison Central won 27-21). Taking that and the quality of competition into consideration, Sparks' performance ranks above just about everybody else's in the 400 Club.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound senior didn't come by his yards cheaply, as did Monquantae Gibson when he set the record of 574 yards against an awful Shawnee team six years ago. And you can't tell me that several other running backs on the list didn't pad their numbers after victory was assured.

Sparks' last carry was just as vital as his first. When it was over, he was too distraught over losing that he didn't realize what he had accomplished. "It caught me off guard when I saw it the next day. I knew I had a good game, but not 400 yards good. It meant a lot to do it against upper-scale competition, too. But a win would've been nicer. I'd rather have had 50 yards and won the game."

Tates Creek Coach Mark Willoughby "had no clue" Sparks had 400 yards. "I knew he was doing a fantastic job, but I didn't know until after the game when somebody said he had 400 yards. I thought 'no way.'"

Sparks has carried 143 times for 875 yards in four games. That's a huge workload for a smallish back, but Willoughby said Sparks' "vision and quickness keep people from getting a good lick on him. When Ty runs the 40, does the vertical jump and does the shuttle run, he doesn't measure up to be an exceptional back. But when you see him on the field you get a whole different perspective of what he means to our team."

FYI...here's the "list" referred to in the article:
