1. Who did SK get ? I think both Shelby Co and Trimble Co could be some of the tallest teams in the region this year - maybe ever! Not sure about the guard play at Shelby though. Trimble could have one of the best teams since the 80"s. I think they could be the favorite in the 29th district and could be a VERY competitive team in the region.
2. Agree on both statements plus SportsLady! If this were the boys team, it would have already been a done deal. Unfortunately, girls sports in general are not a high priority. Add the teacher openings to fill, and you are making it is extremely difficult to find a quality coach. The last two hires that they had fell into place very easily - not so much this time.
3. South Oldham is looking to fill their coaching vacancy with a teacher needed as well which has really delayed the search IMO. Rumored that Whitney Ballinger(not sure of her married name?) (former Carroll County All State, Camplbellsville All American) applied but did not make the cut. A real shame as she would have been FANTASTIC. Some others have applied but they were PE teachers - again they would have been great but did not meet the teaching need. As for Coach Jefferson, not sure if he applied or not. As of right now, NO coaches from last season are returning. They are wanting a certified teacher that is in the building. Going to be hard to find someone that fits their classroom requirement and has coaching experience. Time is moving by quickly and unfortunately, it does not appear to be a priority. Does anyone know who has interviewed or even applied?
4. Add South Oldham to the list of open jobs. Coach Higdon resigns after two seasons.
5. Awesome news! Congrats to Javonna and her family!
6. I can assure you that it all depends on the program/budget within the institution and I did not exaggerate what we experienced. One year, after the season was over, the coach had the players send out letters asking for money because they had "over-spent" . You can go on the visits and ask all the questions you like, but when you are there visiting, you are wined and dined and the coaching staff has a" game plan" to make your visit spot on!
7. I have been a parent of a NCAA D1 athlete and I can say from experience that they are not provided enough food. If we were not able to stock the fridge or take them for food after games or visits, he/she would not have had enough to eat. 6 am practices are before the cafeteria opens and many night practices that got over after the cafeteria closed. Meal money IF it was provided, was $ 5 if that, and guess where they would go- McDonalds dollar menu. Real healthy choice right! Yes scholarship did pay for food, but many times they were not able to eat due to their schedules. If the game bus was leaving at 3 there was no meal before the game, etc. We were fortunate to be able to buy the extra food and in many instances, we would buy for the ones who could not afford it. Cash was given for the holidays but the amount given came out the $3 per meal.
8. But, good players fall the cracks without recognition on a daily basis unfortunately. South Oldham has 3 top junior players in Jones, VanZant, & Wilson that continue to get overlooked. Although this past season was not up to the caliber of past years, they are worth considering.
9. As far as the district final goes, if all of the Lady Dragons are on the same page for the entire game, look for the district crown to remain in Crestwood. However we can't forget that IF is the biggest two-letter word in the English language. This ought to be a huge game tonight.[/quote] You are spot on Retro with your post. Gotta love this time of year! Go Lady Dragons :thumb:
10. South had 4 players in double figures (Sedoris, Jones, VanZant, & Platt) and made free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Hard fought game on both sides. South did have two foul out(Sedoris & Schumm) and Trimble just one. Trimble wraps up a great season.
11. She came out towards the end of the 3rd quarter- maybe 2 mins left, right after she scored her 41st pt. Played all but 1 minute in the first half.
12. Congrats to all - pretty good list for the most part. These teams are always tough as quality players get left off but hard to rate players that you never see. Due to the weather & so many upcoming region vs region games, I am a little surprised that they did not wait a few more weeks.
13. Congrats to the Lady Dragons coming home with the W. Good team effort all around. Hopefully some learning moments as well towards the end of the game. Players have to be aware of "Time & Score." Be wise and treat the ball like gold. Next meeting will be HUGE!
14. I have not seen NCC play in a while. What type of defense did they play? I noticed only 7- 3 pt attempts for the raiders. That must be a season low for them.
15. South got off to a good start, up 13 to 5, and then let the Titans have their way the rest of the quarter. Titans led 16-15 at the end of the 1st due to great 3 point shooting- hit 3 of their 5 made in the game in the 1Q. South was down 28-35 at half. After cutting the Titan lead to 3 with back to back 3 pt shots by Jones, costly turnovers plagued the dragons the rest of the way. South was led by their juniors- Jones, Wilson, & VanZant who carried the scoring load with 23, 19, & 7 pts respectively. Seniors did not have any impact in this game- only 2 pts for the game. CRAZY!!!!
16. The South coach was screaming " TimeOut" and players on the floor were as well- directly at the above mentioned official who claimed that "he did not hear her" less than 3 ft away. She is not a quiet coach by any means, so it is highly unlikely especially when we could hear her and we were further away. He heard what he wanted to hear imo and a few minutes later, "T'd" her up when she was sitting in her chair, discussing to one of her assistants- not cursing ,complaining, or trying to show him up. Simply poor officiating and extremely disappointing that the South team was not given the opportunity that they had earned.
17. I have to disagree with the charge calls. There were 4 called last night on South Oldham ( vs. Gallatin game) . Just depends on the referee - because similar move made by a Gallatin player was not called a charge. IDK- refs just need to be consistent. It is hard enough to adapt to the new rules but even harder if not consistently done throughout & on both ends. And not to mention we have had one game where only 1 of the 3 ref's called all the fouls- how it that possible? Have the rules changed on that as well? I also agree with PTB - that it is impossible to defend the drive without some contact.
18. I do not believe they are the "Clear" favorite. South plays a tougher schedule and has proven that they can compete with them and pulled out a tough last second win in the district championship with a HUGE crowd AT Oldham. Much floor experience was gained last year and this group of girls plays very well together (Jrs & Srs). We may have no players listed in the top 10 - but we definitely have several players with top 10 talent. This should be a break out year for the juniors.
19. AMEN! Sad that players do not deserve better officiating. Lack of respect for the girls game.
20. A player has a right to their space and when you play that physical things happen. South was pushed, shoved, and mugged the entire game and still fouled more according to the officials. There were numerous shove offs by Wells and the other Collins guards that were not called either. We could play this game all day about this or that, and our peceptions will never be quite the same. My point is that poor officiating had a huge influence on the outcome of this game. In the end, Collins adjusted better and South did not. Had the outcome come out in South's favor, I have a feeling you would be thinking the same. Good Luck against SK.
21. Yes, it was bad on both sides, however, I would say that South accumulated more throughout the entire game- lots of touch fouls called on South that were not called on Collins who was way more physical than South. 3 starters for South were in foul trouble the entire game. Free throws were very one sided- 31 for Collins to only 15 for South. Add in the violation on the missed technical foul shot in the 2nd quarter, a block call that should have been a charge on Wells in the closing minutes of the game - it all adds up. The PSN game announcers(one a former official) were as shocked/confused at some of the calls, especially the one on Sedoris on a rebound where she had position. In the end Collins, made their free throws and won the game. Wells did not let her team lose. Congrats.
22. Officials should stay in their region IMO and I really do not feel sorry for the 6th region teams. They don't have these terrible refs right now and now is when it really counts. I do agree that there is no accountability when they switch regions- perhpas that is something that needs to be done.
