You know he is a sports writer, with his own column and is paid to put his opinions out there. I think that at this time of year, which he stated made him think about it, it is okay to debate it. Face it we debate games and school rivalries that are just as retorihical. I agree that no matter what Pulley will always be Mr. Football, but look at the lively debate we have had. BTW.....I agree with him and I also thought it was a mistake for UK to offer him but they were kind of painted into a cornor on that one.

Whitley does not boast a Mr. Basketball canidate (who can't get out of the district) They did pretty well with only one senior on the team last year.

I could see WHITLEY being miffed at Tommy Greeer after his comings and goings down there, and the T.R. Christopher deal Corbin would be a little more than miffed I guess but wouldn't that be the pot calling the kettle black? I just think that this would be a great game year in and year out, and they should be playing. It would draw attention to the kids and that should be the focus. The more attention they get the higher the chance they would have a maybe getting some $$$$$ to help pay for their college tution. Some years Corbin would have the advantage some years Bell, but I think as long as Coach Hilton is there, Bell has a bit of an advantage, but there is no shame in that, Heck Dudley has the advantage on many coaches.

Bell will be very good, but will they be beat. Knowing some of the teams on Bells schedule there will be a couple of games that they need to be at their best or they will be on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

I dont believe you can count anyone out of the district race. All teams were very competitive with each other for the most part and return good players.

No bubble to burst, were just excited about the upcoming season. Letcher, Clay, Perry and N. Laurel all return a number of good football players. However the Colonels only really have to replace one on offense and two on defense. All the replacements saw a considerable amount of playing time and W.C. was in every district game. My outlook on the district is it will be very competitive and anybodys for the taking.

Did they run track for Corbin?

I drove by the area for the new stadium. They have already cleared a major portion of the property, I wonder when we will get to see some plans for the sight. Man this is exciting times for football in the county.

I was talking about the track meet at Whitley, a number of local teams, I believe it is a invitational. It was held on Friday.

I dont believe that the Williamsburg facilities will be as nice or as grand as the Whitley facilities. Both Schools are doing this because they are spending money on "other stuff". Whitley has to move its facilities because of a addition to the current school building, Williamsburg is also planning additions that will take up what existing parking area they have. Therefore the facilities need to be moved before construction can take place. I drove by the Whitley site today and they are already moving earth!:dancingpa

Soccer is a long time in coming at Whitley, but it is coming and will have a great place to play. The new facilities will be top notch, with supposedly a new turf field that does not have lead. I think that the Old Colonel stadium was a great place to play, but this has been talked about as being one of the best playing sites in the state.

You are right, but the Colonels really do not have to replace anyone. I would venture to say that most teams on their schedule will have some key positions to replace.:dancingpa

I believe the Colonels will just be better this year because of they are a year older, and basically lost no one. But a little Black Magic wont hurt!

Those were some great Colonel Teams, Can Whitley go all Black in their uniform the way they did back in those days. I cant remember if they had black pants last year? I know the black jerseys brought back memories.:ylsuper:

I think Lynn Camp was the most physical team besides Bell, that the Colonels played last year. I stand by what I said earlier, about Joe getting hurt, by far the best team in the district with him. That just shows what a difference one player can make at that level. I do think that they will be very good, but I think he will be very difficult to replace.

You explain the West Coast Offense. I know nothing about it. I said comes down to basics or fundamentals. You of all people surely know this. Your the one that said Whitley needed to be 50/50 to be successful, I merely pointed out that was a absurd statment. I also pointed out the fallacies in your statement. You also said the regular season does not matter and that was incorrect. I believe every team would like home field advantage during the play offs and this is accomplished during regular season play. Which I am sure Whitley would enjoy if they were able to get this. As for your rhetorical question, I said what I said and nothing else. The game has not changed, it still boils down to the basics. Blocking and Tackling, etc. As far as balance there are all types of it in Football. It is a term that is usually thrown around by people who believe they know alot more about football than everyone else. No team has ever been 50/50. Most teams will lean towards what they can do best regardless of class, schedule or post season. As far as the regular season not mattering. What is the purpose of trying to win all you district games? I do believe that matters.

I believe the only true loss on the defensive side of the ball was Shawn Baird. He will be difficult to replace. Most of the defense remians intact. Key players (big dogs) last year were Jones, Bramlett, Nate Wilson, Dotson, and Wynn. There are a few more that I can't remember the names of, but I know they were young and will be back.

Letcher was the best team in the district and they proved that on the field. Although Whitley did play them close in both games and had opportunities to win, Letcher found a way to win. What does Whitley need to do to turn the tables, one thing for sure is stop Banks, who might be one of the most underated and overlooked QBs in the state.

Whitley is loaded and has a unusual amount of team speed for most teams at any level. Are there faster teams probably but overall their team speed will be able to match up with just about any team on their schedule. You dont have to be 50/50 on offense, you better be good at what you do. You say worst district I really dont know how you determined that. What is your formula? Whitley needed to create more strength and speed to compete at the 5A level and that is what they have done. Strength punishes, speed kills.

I don't think at this point you could even guess who is going to get the bulk of the carries. It is too early and Jones has yet to take a snap in the backfield. With all the fast cars in his garage, Coach Black could have 3 or 4 backs with alot of carries and alot of yards. Regardless I am sure that you will see Jones with ball, Powers with the ball, Rider with the ball, Patrick with the ball, Bramlett with the ball, Bowlin with the ball, in fact the only guys who might not get the ball will be the Bull Doziers up front.
