Your choice would have been?
Your choice would have been?

I would have picked Turner...Not only does He own the Most TDs record in KY but He has three state championship rings...Not to mentions his career rushing yardage...:thumb:

Brandon Smith, all day and twice on Sunday. the numbers speak for themselves.....

I saw both Pulley and Turner play. I think Pulley was the better player, although I think Turner probably had a better case to win the award than Brandon Smith did, since Smith wasn't a two-way player and the other guys were.

Meaning All-time ranking amongst other high school greats

Yea that award that year could have went to all Three...Im glad I didn't have anything to do with it...:D

Someone try to dig up there numbers when they went head to head in the 04 semi state game...:confused:Pulley and Smith that is...

The Final score was 55-28...

Smith should have better passing #s...That was what Boyle Co did...Hopkinsville passed some, too, but, ran the ball about 70% of the time...Boyle passed about 60% of the time...Best I remember, the awards supposed to go to the best player, period, not the best player with a championship ring, like Vaught says...I wonder if he complained when Shawn Alexander or Tim Couch won it, too, or, is his complaint limited to when a Boyle or Danville player is in the discussion...Best I recall, they didn't have any rings either...

What's funny about what Vaught says is, he says it's supposed to go to the best HS player, not the one with the most college potential, then ends the story talking about the 3's college careers...And, one other thing, notice how this story only comes out after Pulley gets in trouble, which is long past his HS days, mind you, because if he happened to have not gotten in trouble, he most likely would be a starting QB on an SEC team, something Smith could never be and I doubt Turner could start at RB for too many SEC teams...

Larry needs to get over it. That is the way the voting went, like it or not. Why relive a vote from nearly 4 years ago? No vote will ever make everyone happy.

I disagree that the championships were the reason that Pulley shouldn't have won it. Football is awfully difficult to have one player carry a team to a championship on his shoulders. It is hard on any team for that to happen, but when you have 22 starters, one player can only do so much. Smith and Turner were both great players on great teams. Pulley was a great player on a good team. Switch roles and who knows if Smith and Turner would have state titles and if Pulley wouldn't.

By Vaught's criteria, Tim Couch shouldn't have won Mr. Football since he couldn't lead Leslie County to the state championship

To take up for Larry, he covers for Danville and Boyle along with other area schools. So why shouldn't he be outspoken for supporting his schools and there players.

What a lot of outsiders may not know is that Larry and the Advocate write a feature story on all area athletes that are competing at the college level. To me this is great. Because he is doing this he talks to these kids and he realizes how much Turner has grown up in the last 4 years. He realizes the struggles that Smith has endured because of the broken leg. He helps to keep their names out there and in doing so, took a trip down memory lane. Smith and Turner probably produced more memories than any other Danville/Boyle combination of player. Kudos to Vaught

I have much respect for Larry.

But he's wrong in this instance.

Mr. Football isn't based on what someone did in his career. At least, it's not supposed to be. It should be based on who the best senior is that year, regardless of what he did in his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.

Pulley was simply the best player that season, IMO. It could have gone to either of those three athletes, but I think Pulley was just a hair better.
