There is nothing to play out. That is part of the reason many are upset over such a light punishment. A $1,000 fine for each violation and over $10,000 reimbursement to KHSAA for investigative fees and you just play on.

Holmes got a to a quick lead. Besides cutting the lead early in the 4th, it was never much of a game.

IMO, if a school is caught recruiting. All sports programs from that school should be banned from post-season play for a year. A high school is a small enough institution and the administration should be aware of what is going on.

18 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter got cut to 9 points with about 4 minutes left. 4 quick points by Holmes then running out the clock the rest of the way.

The Etown game is away for the bulldogs. You are correct. Pettigrew scored a ton, but Holmes won 88-64.

You asked for best uniforms also. The best I have seen all year is the blue that Boone County wears on the road. It is classy. Very nice looking

Greenup was a school that signed a home and home contract with the Bulldogs. Etown another. Teams are not beating down the door to come to Covington to play them. You take what you can get.

Very well said. I take my kids to a lot of games and its ridiculous what some people say and do.

It seemed the unselfish play that has helped them offensively all season wasn't there tonight. Credit to the NCC defense for frustrating them all night. They changed defenses frequently which helps to slow down Holmes. The defense wasn't there tonight as it has been in the past. NCC ran a lot of screens down low and Holmes defenders got lost which lead to several baskets from the paint. Excellent rebounding by NCC led to 2nd and 3rd chance points. Avery didn't have a good game which compounded the offensive frustration. Philosophically, it appeared the Bulldogs were playing not to lose instead of playing to win. NCC coaches had a great game plan and it was executed well by their players.

By your definition of great season, I do hope they have a great season. Great is too subjective a term and is open to interpretation. I just have always thought of great as a term that applies to more than just a single season.

You can coach and teach it. You can grow it, You can nurture it and you can prepare kids to display it when it is all on the line. If you don't believe that, try reading a book by John Wooden, Bo Schembechler, Woody Hayes, Tony Dungy, Bill Parcells, or a book from a successful coach.

I was referring just to games in which Holmes had scored in the 40's and 50's this year. It was in response to a previous post.

I disagree that you measure great teams by championships. IMO, you measure great programs by championships. If they cut down the nets at Rupp, they are the Sweet 16 champs and then you can start a thread about the greatest team from the 9th. That debate will depend alot on who the champ has to go through to win it all. You discount the importance of simply playing a sport. There are people who remember who finished 2nd or 4th and its the kids that played on those teams.

With March rapidly approaching, they need to get a coach in place ASAP. IMO this is paramount. That coach needs to be someone willing to make a committment to that community and willing to stay. With the players they have returning, they will be just fine with the right leadership.

First of all it is Coach "Henley". Second, according to your logic, he can just open up the gym for practice and wash the uniforms for the boys and they would be just fine. Its not all the players and its not all the coaches. To suggest otherwise is just showing ignorance towards sports.

I agree that it is a wacky thought to not want your team to win against region contenders, but suppose a coach thinks that and goes into a regular season game with the intent to play it close to the vest and expect to lose. So as you prepare for that team with just 1 practice day, you approach your team and say what? I think your players see right through any coachspeak you can offer at the time. Any coach worth their whistle will gameplan to win every night.

A few stats to think about: Holmes averages 64.9 points a game They give up an average of 45.0 points a game They have allowed more than 60 points a game just twice this year. First game of the year, 64 to Harrison County 70 points to Highlands last Thursday in the overtime victory.
