I got to thinking about some of the coolest and worst uniforms I ever saw in High School basketball. The further you go back in time obviously the tighter the shorts got so some of these go without saying. Here were a few crazy combinations.

1986 Highlands Mix/Match Dark Tops/White shorts

1982 Holy Cross T-shirts for jerseys with Indian emblem on sleeve

1978 Holmes - Didnt they have pinstripe shorts.

It seems like I recall in recent years that Holy Cross had their Indian emblem in an awkward spot right on their butts. I could be wrong about that. It might've been another team. It seemed like it was in a spot that if you were sitting the bench you'd be sitting right on it. I'm pretty foggy about that though. I'm thinking it was over 5 years ago maybe?:confused: Who knows, it might've been incentive to play so well that you didn't have to sit the bench or else you'd be branded with an Indian design where the sun don't shine.

Mid 70's to mid 80's Holmes had red and white striped warmups - a little Globetrotterish.

This isn't uniforms but...has there ever been an UGLIER floor than Conner's in '76. WAAAAAY over the top with the patriotic motif!....JMHO.

In the '70s-'80s, Rockcastle had some tiny white shorts with red and blue big stars on the side. SWEEEEEET!:lol:

I have not seen Augusta play in while, but a few years ago they had some disgusting look'n black and orange. I believe the tops were black with pinstripes and the shorts were orange or vice-versa.

:laugh: All good examples. I think Holy Cross had jersey's with sleeves for several years in the early to mid 80's. Holmes certainly had the pinstripe warmups, but I think you may be right they actually had some pinstripe game shorts for a year or two.

 

For several years in the late 80's into the 90's Highlands also incorporated Red into their uniform trim. Never understood where that came from. :confused:

 

In the mid 80's Lloyd went sans the white uniforms altogether and went blue for road and gold for home. Not sure how many other times a school has had no home whites to put on, and caused a few problems with road teams who wore gold (Campbell County, NCC).

I must say that the first time I ever saw the Ryle Raider's uniforms my stomach did a little flip-flop. I think it was 2001 when Doellman was a sophomore, but no one knew who he was yet and Ryle wasn't any good. I give them a thumbs up for breaking the same-old-same-old colors tradition and such, but I wasn't ready for the orange, gray, black and maybe white combination. (Maybe someone could verify all the colors that they use). I've warmed up to it little better over the years, but it really caught me off guard at first. I thought that it was way too busy and way too ugly. :eek:

No offense to Ryle though.

I think Orange, Black and Mint Green would make great colors. What do ya think?

You asked for best uniforms also. The best I have seen all year is the blue that Boone County wears on the road. It is classy. Very nice looking

The candy cane warmups were sweet.

Beal and company running the 4man pasing drill or the figure 8 to the tunes of Sweet Georgia Brown....

 

Highlands blue shorts and white tops were horrendous.

 

Evansville U wore short sleeves for the longest time as well.

 

Didnt Conner wear them for a short while?

 

Didn't NCC or NewCath have belts with their uni's?

I have yet to see Ryle come up with a color scheme that looks good for their uniforms.

 

Cooper High's Garnet and Gold has a lot of potential.

 

Boone does have some nice uniforms this year.

Do you recall old Maysville HS uniforms? Used to be some very good matchup from days gone by between the Bulldogs of the COV and Maysville.

I believe Maysville had black and baby poop green or brown as their colors.

Absolutely worst color scheme ever - black and what I would call dirty yellow.

 

Good call, by the way, on the Highlands blue shorts and white jerseys and the belts on NewCath. I'd forgotten about those.

 

Four corners and figure 8 - WOW! Before the era of the pre-game dunks, I thought those were the coolest pre-game drills. Problem was I remember as a sophomore screwing up the Figure 8 a few times and running into people - it was simple after a while, but those first practices were ugly.

 

What year did Holmes go to the black warmups? I want to say 89 - Mike Flynn's first year?
