After reading the paper Saturday about last weeks game, I was wondering if Harlan has a offensive and defensive Co. or does Donahue call both the offense and defense? Thanks in advance!

The question isn't who played and who didn't play as Harlan and Bell both put the very best product on the field that they could, minus maybe a Varsity player here or there with good reason! It is easy to see both teams have talent but the real question is which bunch will put forth the WORK the next three years to be the best they can be? Only time will tell!

Talking about sacks and D-line and all that kind of stuff, If the Ison kid doesn't get some state wide honors for his play this year something is bad wrong! What he has done the 1st four games of this season is simply Maul people. He destroyed the opponent specifically in the second half. It was one of the better single game effort from a Harlan County player in a long time.

Should be a great atmosphere Friday night. Harlan County played a great second half Friday against Lee High. Very emotional, intense and physical. First time all year I thought they played with emotion except a play or two here and their against LCC. If the Bears can build on that second half, and keep getting better and better each week good things are down the road. Good job Black Bears. Keep on keeping on! THis one should be a dandy and too close to call!

We need to be out in full force friday night giving all the help we can for the Bears. After talking to the staff today it seems as though the Bears have had the injury bug bite them pretty good. I didn't realize it but we played without several starters last friday night and it appears even more will be out this week. Hope all get well as fast as possible, however this is an excellent opportunity for a lot of kids to step up and meet the challenge. With only about 20 minutes or so to Lee, I am expecting a lot of good food before the game. We had around 75 at Lynn Camp so I am expecting at least 100 friday night. GO BEARS!

Can someone tell me what ever happened to Coach C? Where is he at now and what is he doing? Thanks in advance!

Harlan County or the Bears big guy!

Cody and Stephen both did good. Cody is going to get better each and every game as he gets that knee off his mind. He is going to be a good one as well as several others as long as they work the sky is the limit. Which brings me to a point that I have been thinking about every since last year. I get on here and see the talk about the Bears with the combo of the three schools. I read all about the coaches and its fun as can be. I listen to the talk and I am one of the main people that has been talking the Bears up. Nothing in the world wrong with that and I think its going great as far as we have traveled BUT at some point and time the players must take it as a challenge to get better. You can have 100 players or 20 players, the best coach or the not so good coach but success is a direct result of the players. What I am saying is that the kids have to set a goal and then set out to achieve the goal. These freshmen that we have could be the District, Regional and even state champs in the next 4 years. The question is do they want to be and do they understand what it would take. My ole coach always told us that W=W. Meaning that work equals wins. True words I still remember today. Football, for the most part, isn't a skilled sport. Anybody that has a desire to be the best they can be can play a big part on a football team. How many of these kids are going to put in the extra work to be more than successful just here in the mountains. I guess I am speaking to those Bears that get on here and read. Success has no short cuts. For example, right down the road I know of a player who has very little God-given ability but he has worked his butt off to be the best he could be and it shows. One of the best backs in mnts. and the state. Those 5:45 am workouts on the field before school, all the road work, eating the iron and all he has done is tremendous. It can and has been done but the question is are we willing to do it. Little Bears there is no time like the present and with work we can do great things. You will have the best facilities, a great coach and all the things you need to be successful. A great opportunity that I hope we will take advantage of. I'm tired!

I agree with the part about not playing the Green. I have said this over and over and I still stand by it. However, the people who make these decisions doesn't ask for my imput but I still have a hard time understanding the thinking. My reasons go deeper than w's and l's but I think it would be best for the county side to move away from them in all sports! I feel they have opened the door with football the last couple years and all sports should follow this example. Again, just my opinion and before anyone says it, I know it isn't worth much. lol

The first two road games didn't affect the fan base for Harlan Co. The following for this team has been outstanding. They were at least 30-40 people gathered in the parking lot eating and playing games before 5 bells last week at Lynn Camp. The action broke out again after the game and some didn't leave till really late. I am interested in seeing just how many do go North this saturday.

I think the trip for the Bears put them at a 14 point disadvantage right from the get-go! Thats a long time to be on a bus. I still think that trip was the biggest single factor last year for Cawood in their win against Fleming. Turn about is fair play and the Bears will have to play through fatigue among other things. This one will not be easy!

Cullivan bringing freshmen from the stands is a classic. It was A freshmen, when all others was told to stay home. This one just so happened to go and bring his stuff. Imagine that? You just never know do you?

That 3rd sentence is pretty bold. Harlan County has had some of the best coaches of anywhere throughout the years!

I don't think they had problems at all. This was a very good team playing a very good team and Cawood just came up short. That is the way it is in life and all must go on. I really think that it was one of the best high school games ever and I wish they would of pulled it out because I am thinking they would have made a deep run after that game. One or two plays you can always point to in any game that changes the direction but Newport just made one more play on that night.

Harlan County fans are worried about playing the district champs from last year. Playing for the first time as a new school and playing on turf which isn't an everday thing for this team. Playing a program that has had time to develop and the scheme they play isn't going to help much either. So, to answer your question we are excited and anxious at the same time. I feel like we would be much better off for the first game if we weren't playing the "chuck and duck" offense. Several games down the road, I would be a lot more confident but you must play the hand that is dealt. The cards are stacked against my BEARS and its easy to see why BUT we will show up Friday and see what happens! Black Bears 21 LCC 20 GO BLACK BEARS!

I agree, the kids are blessed and Tom is a first class guy and first class coach. The kids of Harlan are also blessed because THEY made many great choices to lead our kids of this county. I couldn't be more pleased with the three big sports coaches; Larkey, Jones, Lewis and then Nolan for girls and they seem to be great all the way down the line! :thumb:
