Getting players in the right position is most of the battle and I agree that Dudley is one of the best when it comes to this. However, his QB is going to be his best athlete which he has shown sense his days at Breathitt and hasn't changed any since then. One of the things that makes Dudley successful is that he keeps everything as simple as it can be and he has a belief about football and he works as hard as anyone towards this belief. Finally, he has a gift to get his players to believe they can do anything and then they go out and do it. Any play or any defense is the right one when the coaches and players believe it is and Dudley has shown this time and time again. He can get the most out of an individual as anyone on the high school level that has ever coached and when you have such a gift everything like X's and O's are secondary. JMHO

It has been proven that the hardest thing to do in any sport is to hit a 100 mph fast ball. It someone doesn't think so then just try it. However, for overall skill, I think basketball is number 1 followed by baseball and then football. JMHO

Well it tickles me to death that someone else can see the harm that these basketball Mom and Dads are doing to the kids. I have dreams of kids slinging a regular basketball up to a 10 foot goal as daddy has a big smile on his face. For some reason they think as long as they play 50 games between seasons that a South Laurel or whomever will not get ahead of their kids. If people would just listen to me and you Bayshore, I am positive we could change this in Harlan County. lol

I really think a good feeder program is a must for success on the high school level. It can be done without one but those cases are very rare. Bell High was average to below average and that is being nice before 89. They now have them playing all the way down to the first year in school. They have a very good middle school program with both Freshmen and JV teams. They have been doing this for some time now and are gaining the benefits as of late. I think you have a good complaint about kids learning bad habits but IMHO football isn't the skill sport like basketball. Years of bad habits in the early grades from shooting a basketball are almost impossible to overcome. I see pre-5 graders learning these habits as local AAU teams and parents try to play 30, 40 and even 50 games between the seasons. It makes me wonder why in the world these kids shoot on 10 foot goals when its obvious they can't shoot it the correct way. Also, they almost always play with a ball that is to large but still the Moms and Dads have a hard time seeing the big picture. This causes nightmares for Junior High Coaches and even High school coaches because these habits you can't overcome. However, Football is a totally different beast since it isn't a skill sport to the effect of say basketball. You still need to teach good fundamentals but if this isn't the case the experience can and almost always overshadows the negatives in football. JMHO.

Just had a thought about nobody wanting to play Bell High. Maybe we could get a Dobyns-Bennett and or a Maryville to come and take turns playing Bell. If that didn't work we could always get Chat. Redbank to come on up for enough money. Just a thought?

I think you have it all wrong, maybe you have been in the trenches for too long! lol As Miss Bear already stated, Larkey is running our ship and nobody would pick up a game unless it was Larkey. We are just hungry fans talking about something that could be a positive for Harlan Co. football. I talked with Larkey last week and he has never been more happy with a community, school, and school system from the top to the bottom as he is in Harlan. He has full control and FULL SUPPORT OF EVERYONE. You might want to bark up another tree because that will not fly around here. Powell Va was just a suggestion but surely someone out there will play Bell. The way I see it is that you guys had a great bowl until Middlesboro bailed out and since the City isn't going to play Harlan Co. some thought it would be a good idea to join forces among Bell and Harlan. One thing is for sure, It really doesn't matter what you and I think because it will come down to Larkey and Dudley. Finally, while most in Harlan and southeast KY respects Bell Co and understands they have a great program, speaking for myself I am not worried about Bell but I am focused on Black Bear Football.

I agree. Can't wait to see Larkey and the men from Harlan County take the field. This is going to be something special and everyone better get on the train now before she pulls out because the Bears will wait on no one! I get goose bumps just thinking about it!:thumb:

I am all for leaving Lee High on the schedule for a regular season game and getting two teams like a Powell Valley and Gate City. Harlan Co. and Bell High could play each of those two on a two year contract. Then whomever hosted the bowl game would travel for the regular season game between the two. This gives both Harlan Co. and Bell high 2 of the non district games each year. Four teams like Harlan Co., Bell, Gate City and Powell could turn into one of the better bowl games in the state of Kentucky. I am one that loves good quality football and would pay admission for these two games anyday. I think this could be a great bowl for Harlan and Bell both. I for one hope it can be worked out because this could be something special.

:flame: It's a long way to Harlan big guy and no doubt the place will be rockin. The place will be packed and the boys will be ready to TRY AND KEEP THE SCORE BELOW 30. YEAH RIGHT! I can already feel the energy in the air and it should be fun to say the least!:flame:

I am hearing Powell has made a mistake and now are wanting to play. Is this rumor or are they any truth to it? Anybody out there from Powell's neck of the woods that could shed some light? This is turning out to be CRAZY!

What is the deal with Powell Co. I am hearing that they might not of thought this thing through and acting to fast by dropping Harlan Co. Anybody have any info?

:thumb: I fully understand what you were saying and I agree. A 30 on the ACT shows your son's work ethic and thats 9/10 of the battle in everything we encounter throughout life.

The last I heard, a team from PENN was wanting to meet half way. I don't know if it can be worked out but it is an option.

I agree 100%. The Lewis kid comes by it honest. Both Parents were great players. The Miracle and a long list of others are special too.

Harlan County has some dandy 7th and 8th grade kids coming up. Maybe the best in a loooooooooong time. Football, basketball and baseball, man these kids can play. Harlan County will only get stronger.
