As for the Ind. question, you must keep in mind that Cumberland, Cawood and Evarts has always been like Bell High and Middlesboro are or maybe even worse. Now you Have Harlan County all rolled up into one and I don't think the outlook is going to change towards the City. I don't know I guess we will see? Go Black Bears!

You could be right but I don't see anybody not wanting to come play for Larkey and Jones at Harlan County High. If the hiring would have been different I might have been concerned but I don't think it could of worked out any better.:dancingpa

You misunderstood me I think. I wasn't meaning the best athlete for Bell High coming from Pineville but that Bell High gets more of the better athletes that pineville has to offer than the other way around. Bell has something special and kids just want to be a part of that with Hilton and all. Well, that is exactly my point. Harlan County has one of the greatest high school coaches and has the support and the ole saying goes "build it they will come". That is why I feel Harlan County will be just fine. JMHO. GO BLACKBEARS!

Just another view. Don't Bell now get the best athletes from Pineville. It does work both ways. I am aware that this isn't going to be a cake walk but after a few bumps in the road Harlan County will be something special and kids want to be a part of something special. Go BLACK BEARS!

Don't think so because who would want to sit out a year. Harlan County high has to much to offer. The only problem is these kids will have to work to earn a spot on the field, court or whatever and the last I checked a little hard work is a good thing. Kids will have to make a choice if they want to be on a winner or just be the stuff on a team. Lets take basketball for example, Harlan city will have to beat Harlan Co, Bell Co and Middlesboro to get into the region. Not taking anything away from Harlan but that shouldn't happen very often. If it does they need to find a new coach for Bell and Harlan Co along with Middlesboro. Baseball is going to be the same way. Athletes usually play more than just football so they must take that into consideration. JMHO but it could play out a number of different ways. However, if a good athlete is wanting to score 50 a game or carry the ball 30 times a game it might happen but again they are more concerned with the individual than the team and Harlan Co would be better off without them. Just the way I see the big picture but who knows how kids think today.

I have no Idea. Come to think of it I can't remember watching Rock last year but I do recall them kind of getting away from the three back set over the last few years didn't they? I really don't know!

Remember you have to get a couple QB from that list. Then probably several wideouts could come from that list also, I am guessing. I think they will be plenty of chances to get on the field. I would guess he will try to platoon as much as possible but that would depend on if they have the ability to do that and not lose much from each unit. It will be interesting to see it play out.

I really have been hearing some great things about the Black Bears the last week or two. I really think the Westfelt kid will have a break out season. He looks to be around 150 or maybe a little bigger. I was told he has a bench over 300 and just as good squat and clean numbers. Also, I was told that Gilliam and the Smith along with Fields can run in the middle to high 4-5. I was told this by several people but we will just have to wait and see. I do know that the 3 can flat out run because they showed it last year. It should be interesting to say the least to see how this bunch comes together. We have a great coach and some great kids and the energy is high in Harlan County for Black Bear Football.

I know Coach Jones is one of the best and I am sure he will do a great job. I can't wait. Bell will be strong and Middlesboro will have the players, so this district should be interesting to say the least.

What does Harlan County need to do to improve in 2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive. Any info about how this combination is coming together? How is the weight program going? You can feel the energy in the air and the football team is the talk of the town. Will the Bears be able to make some noise in the first year? Go Bears, I can't wait till week one to see them take the field!

Anybody have any information on the BEARS. I am seeing a lot of support through shirts and hats and info in the paper. Can anyone tell me if they are working together ( open gym) or anything else? Go Bears, I am looking forward to how this district and region will play out. Hoping the Black Bears can make a impact in the first year!

I think you are missing my point.

Remember that the State is mandating schools to do more and more with the same or less money from the Budget. I am hearing around southeast ky that because of this and rising fuel cost that if the price keeps going up it will have a very negative effect on sports teams. I hope not but its something to think about.

You have to remember that the State keeps mandating schools to do more and more with the same or less money. Add that to the cost of fuel and the tax base for most of Eastern Ky and you have real problems

I understand everything you are saying and I agree 100%. However, when it was mentioned about Highlands and Cov. Cath playing in the district that the numbers show it was said who would they play. They would have to do to much traveling ect. How can you let some play up and then not let a team play down for the same reason. I just can't see how you could allow a team from the mountains travel all the way to Shebly Co. for a district game. Heck you can't even get to there from here. You first must drive 50 miles just to get started. Of course this isn't happening but my argument is that it would be a pretty good one. Maybe I am wrong but its hard for me believe this would take place. I give up! lol:flame:

You just told me I wasn't a Super because I wasn't thinking about travel expense and you justified your argument with the money/distance. The money and distance is the same if I have 6a numbers playing down for travel and expense as it would be for 3a and 4a moving up for travel and expense. This is my point as to why I feel everyone should go by numbers and leave it alone.

My point exactly! When you change from your plan then a lot of wrinkles play out. You let one move up then another and another. Let one move down and so on. This one picks the district and that one isn't allowed to even move. Take the numbers and divide them up and play football in the class you are assigned and we have no problems.
