Harlan County High Bears

Featured Replies

Anybody have any information on the BEARS. I am seeing a lot of support through shirts and hats and info in the paper. Can anyone tell me if they are working together ( open gym) or anything else? Go Bears, I am looking forward to how this district and region will play out. Hoping the Black Bears can make a impact in the first year!

I'm sure HDE could give a rundown of what they are going to have between Cumberland, Cawood, and Evarts. With Coach Jones coaching and combining all those schools they will be a dangerous team.

I know Coach Jones is one of the best and I am sure he will do a great job. I can't wait. Bell will be strong and Middlesboro will have the players, so this district should be interesting to say the least.

I thought their mascot name was Black Bears.

Sorry!

Open gym HAS started for the BLACK BEARS!

All the kids have came together and really responded to each other well (so I'm hearing). I also heard that with some teaching (although they will be young) by the end of the year, this BLACK BEAR team could be dangerous!!!!!!!

Good luck BLACK BEARS!!!!!!!!!!

I am anxious for the Black Bears to do well. Caldwell (Cawood) in the post will be their best known commodity, but I look for Brandon McCoun (Cawood) to play with more passion and discipline and blossom under Jones.

I hope that Calwell can come back 100% (or at least close) from his knee surgery, because the Black Bears will need his presence inside.

As for McCoun, he has a big upside, but I hear he is laking in commitment right now. Hopefully he can get that out of him before practice starts in the summer (or Jones will), because he could turn into a really nice player.

Should make them a very powerful player in the 13th region. Always happy when those non-major market schools do well. Guess we all have a little "Hoosiers" or "Rudy" in our veins. At least I do. Will be watching them play some games this summer and next season.

I guess the Hoosiers comparison would have been last year with Cawood, Cumberland and Evarts. Now they are the Muncie Central of the 13th Region!

I'm looking forward to seeing them play as well; but I think that we will have to wait until next season to do so. I heard that Jones decided not to play any summer games, because he felt like they needed to utilize the practice time. I don't know if this is true, but it does make sense.

I've got a little "Hoosiers" and "Rudy" in my veins also. :ylsuper:

I have said this many times in relation to the Harlan Co. Bears. They have a great coach in Jones and a solid post player in Caldwell (If he is 100%). On the other hand will they have that go to 1 or 2 man? To me this will be the question mark for the Bears.

They'll have pretty good talent and very good coaching.

My biggest concern is the dedication of some of the players. Jones has let much more talented players go than anyone on the Harlan County roster because they weren't willing to put in the time and effort necessary to win a regional championship. Anyone who thinks they can get away with skipping practices or summer workouts will be watching from the bleachers next year.
