For some reason I thought Grant took 3 of the 4 qtrs over Paris. Maybe 2 qtrs...they went by qtrs & then re-set to 0-0 for each, so overall totals, I don't really remember for sure. Were all the games played at the Panorama that way? Start at 0-0 for each qtr?

I believe this one was a team event, wasn't it? I know of one KY based AAU team that was going to go...KY Extreme? Any others?

Adidas Midwest Explosion-Indianapolis. (The player list had 3 gals from No Ky on it.) Individual event, not a team event. One day, time only kept, no score kept, fouls called but not counted. Appx 160 players, appx 35-40 colleges represented. These come to mind right now since I was familiar with them immediately: NKU, Thomas More, Bellarmine, Evansville, Hanover. I know a couple of DI's were there from Indiana, but I can't remember if it was Purdue & Indiana or someone else. They were kept separate in the facilities for seating of course since they could not talk with the players. LOTS of basketball played. 3 games for each player, 21 min halves, 7 min intervals for subs. My daughter's team had 7 players. By the 3rd game, not a whole lot of jumpshots were falling for anyone present! Each team had an hour in between games. Very well run. Since we had not had an opportunity to do this before, it was a surprise to find that the college scouts from a lot of colleges were actually there. No overpromise and under deliver for this event.

Agreed! Coach Davis has done a great job. In addition, the new sports writer to the county has expanded the football coverage in the local press...people in the county take notice. It's nice to have a little "buzz" & actually talk about winning, instead of how much you think they will get beat by...Grant Co wins in a close one.

No problem. When it comes to eligibility...confirm, confirm & then confirm some more!!

The message was sent to AD's & girls basketball coach's of record at KHSAA via email. I took the new interpretation directly from that email. I verified receipt of the email with our AD & have had someone else just confirm via private message that they checked with KHSAA with a phone call before signing up their gals to play at an event that weekend. KHSAA confirmed this for him yesterday afternoon. I personally for my daughter's sake, always confirm, confirm, confirm. I will also make a call to KHSAA to verify before sending her anywhere, since as you mentioned it is not in print on the website. I am trying to find an event now for that weekend because the initial event she was invited to (which we thought we could not attend until yesterday) has closed the registration window. Here is the excerpt from the email that provides further explanation: This Case situation was discussed for several months, and is to be published in this year’s Handbook. Due to the printing delays in the Handbook caused by our rules promulgation process, it is being distributed in this manner to allow the female athletes to immediately take advantage of this one opportunity. The exception is clearly and restricted solely to the NCAA open weekend, and does not afford an opportunity for either 1) male participation (that window already exists in the spring), or 2) extended participation by females outside of the defined period in the interpretation. Please contact any member of the executive staff at the KHSAA if you have questions.

A "new" interpretation from KHSAA on Bylaw 8!! This just out from KHSAA: Case BL-8-8- Are there any exceptions to the participation restrictions for females in fall basketball exposure events? Due to the fact that current NCAA rules allow for an opportunity within Bylaw 8 for boys’ basketball players with eligibility remaining to attend and participate in activities that are basketball-specific (without the head coach) and a comparable opportunity does not exist for females due to existing NCAA rules and restrictions, the Commissioner and Board of Control have previously ruled that an exception be allowed. That exception allows girls’ basketball players with eligibility remaining and having previously participated at any level on a high school team, to travel to and participate in, activities during the fall NCAA open evaluation period for non-scholastic events. The specific dates for such a period are available through the NCAA web site, and for 2007-2008 are September 28-30.

As a bit of curve in playing select/AAU vs high school & elite athletes that are being recruited at the college level, I know of a case involving another sport (soccer) that the athlete quit the high school team at the beginning of the season, was then offered the opportunity to play at the college level but could not accept the offer WITHOUT playing on the high school team the senior year. Back on the team now (after much negotiation & meeting the conditions for the return, such as sitting out of games until she has so many practices in, etc etc) The college is making the offer contingent on her playing on the high school team her final season. Anyone hear of any such scenarios involving basketball?

My daughter was invited to TN to attend a 1-day exposure event recently. 3 games, 1 day. It would have been a violation if she had attended. From the KHSAA Handbook, from Bylaw 8: Case-BL-8-7-Can a football or basketball player play in an outside league in football or basketball during the school year prior to the season? Student-athletes in football and/or basketball may not participate in outside competition in any organized setting including camps, clinics, scrimmages or games, from the first day of school until after the last game of the season. Key words...in any organized setting.

And was Hargett present for those games?

I pretty much agree with your rankings. I like SK at #1...Tolliver looks very good & will be a contender for regional player of the year. I am interested to see what Shelby Co does this year. Gray is an exciting player. #6-10 I would also agree are an interesting group & any one of them could be a big surprise & pull way up & possibly push for a spot in the top 5. WV is a big question mark in my mind. I like Hargett. Anybody see anything of WV this summer? As far as a sleeper team, Grant Co. What I saw from the new coach & how some of the young players have developed (as well as a senior that did not play last season to injury who can shoot the 3) they had some very surprising moments during the summer session & improved dramatically from the start to finish for the summer session. You want to support your hometown team of course & at the same time try not to be biased, but Grant Co. actually surprised me this summer. Williamstown is always a scrappy, hardworking team. I would not underestimate what they can do as they mature.

There were a lot of injuries to players last season that required extensive rehab or surgery. Any updates on them & their hope for the upcoming season? A few signifigant contributors to their respective programs that come to mind are Tierney at ND, Daughtery at Ludlow & Allen at Highlands.

Grant County won the camps final day of tournament play after defeating Owen Co, Henry Co & then Ludlow in the finals last night. 3 games in one night & the last 2 were back to back. Ludlow did a great job this week hosting the camp, thanks for a good week of basketball!

Ludlow is a team to keep an eye on this season. If they can be consistent and FEED the post, look out! They beat Grant Co last night. It was a very late game, I was half asleep in the stands & IT WAS HOT in there. I think the heat had something to do with the loss Owen had to Wmstown as well in the game before. Wmstown is very scrappy & works very hard, but Owen did have to play back to back games. That is tough on any team, especially considering it is summer ball, conditioning isn't what it normally is in the regular season & and it is a gym with no air conditioning. Not so much the temperature yesterday, but the humidity seemed to be up & just sitting made you sweat. I think Grant Co also has a lot of potential for the upcoming season. If the team learns to crash the boards harder, they could be a formidable opponent. That it a pet peeve of mine in girls basketball. It is not unusual to see girls watch the shot go up instead of crashing & while watching the shot getting beat on the box out. Grant Co also played Beechwood last night and won.

Nice perimeter shooting...several players from Connor have a real nice touch on those outside shots.
