Depends if Hammer is healthy. Throw Downing in for Lang and Hammer in for Rice when they return. Pawsat also has a chance to start for Setty or Barner as well.

Its way too early to tell because not everyone has all of their players. Alot of football players aren't even back yet, and if they are, they aren't in "basketball mode" yet. Sometimes its a rough transition between seasons.

Who didn't think they could win? I don't know anyone who didn't think that they COULD win, especially with the best player in the state on their team.

Wasn't at the game, but I am pretty sure #5 is Mandella Rice. He has been apart of the Mason County system since elementary school. Great kid and a pretty good player. He is one of the best shooters on the team.

They were without Hamm as well.

It really doesn't make sense that they have Mason County as the top team in the Region, yet they only have one player in the top ten. They both can't be true. If they are truely the top team, then they most likely would have at least two players in the top ten. If not, then they shouldn't be ranked #1 and GRC should.

Not Having Hatton or Downing on here makes this list lose alot of credibility. They are both clear cut top ten players in my mind.

There will be plenty of leaders on this team. The '09 class at Mason County is a very good class filled with many players that have played together since they were in 2nd Grade. Downing will be a vocal leader for this team and Ryan Hamm will lead as well. This team has a chance to win their region if some of their players live up to their capabilities. Saying this team will lack leadership is just untrue.

What do you have to base that on? He got a scholarship from UK so he has to be good? Have you seen him play? Until I see Zollo play, I will have to say that Stenzel and Middleton and the two best players in the region.

Hatton as good as Middleton?

You must not have seen the State tournament then. Keith Downing stepped up his game like everyone in Mason County knew he could do. Keith has always faded into the background at Mason County because he chose to help his teammates instead of taking lots of shots for himself. But this year, his senior year, he is the only returning starter besides Russ and he will have his chance to shine. Keith was a leader on the team last with with his defense and intensity and Setty, Miller, and Middleton all respected him greatly for it. If he can be a leader on a team with stars, he can definately be a leader with a group of young players. You don't have to score 20 a game to lead either. Keith isn't the only player on this team that should step up this year. Ryan Hamm knows the offence as well as anyone on the team and will be a key distributor for the Royals. Neal Pawsat should be a very good player for the Royals as well. The real X factors are Treg Setty and Phil Barner. If either one (or both) of them live up to as good as they could be, this team will definately be as good as any team in the 10th. This team has potential written all over them, it is a matter of whether or not they live up to their potential. And it won't be easy being the defending state champs with a bullseye on your back. The Royals will definately get the best game from whoever they play.

Yeah, you are right. Those 2 State titles in the last 5 years just mean nothing.

I agree. GRC may be the favorite but Mason County will not finish that low.

Regardless of the attendance, the place is a dump and it was embarassing to host the event in that location IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I think he will be awesome at UK. I was just saying that this wasn't close to being one of his best games.

You must not have watched the same game that I watched. Darius didn't really play that well in my opinion except for about a 5 min stretch in the second half to help extend their lead from 10 to around 20. He made a few key plays in this time period including a bucket, getting to the line, and getting a couple assists. I guess I have just seen him play alot better and I know he is capable of much more. This was a very average game for Darius. I think that the All Star type game doesn't fit his personality very well. He is usually a team-first player, so the "let me get mine" atmosphere isn't where he thrives. I was very impressed with Brown, Mack, and Moses though. Moses held his own in the paint vs. Zeller, and Brown rarely missed from 3 pt range. All in all, a good outing by the KY All Stars.:thumb:

I feel like alot of people are more excited that the tournament WON'T be at Mason Co. than they are that it will be held at NKU. The only concern I had with it being held at Montgomery Co. was that people would be left out. This won't be the case at NKU so I am all for it. Everybody deserves a turn.

Thats a very fair post. I'm just basing my opinion on the returning talent that I know that they have. They could even up a top 10 team but they aren't at the beginning of the season.
