You apparently haven't paid attention to the football program lately, and this past year the the boys basketball program finished runner-up in the district tournament. FHS has several state finalists and a state champion in track - The boys soccer team is competitive year in and year out, and the boosters for the boys and girls have raised enough money to send both teams to scotland this fall they are two years removed from a state participant in boys golf. Outside of that that hardly compete in anything :lol: BTW they have a new superintendent who is doing a great job and Frankfort High has a new principal and several new teachers . . . my feeling from being around the district is that it is about to bust wide open - in the most positive sense. The only fear is losing Coach Buckett in the next couple of years.:cry:

None - If you live out of district, you must apply to get in and the process is well scrutinized by the teaching staff. Once you get in, you have to pay the tuition. Even if you are a senior and in your last semester, they will send you "home" if you don't pay the tuition. It is a pretty solid policy.

I don't disagree a bit. I am disappointed that I was no longer an AD when the vote was taken, not that I could have changed anything. My feelings are that it is the Kentucky HIGH SCHOOL Athletic Association and as a result should not be allowed to govern middle schools. It should be allowed to limit contact by the high schools of middle school students not in feeder systems, but that limit is on the HIGH SCHOOL end. It should NOT govern middle school students, including the "promotion from 8th grade". IMHO a student is NOT under the auspices of the KHSAA until they are enrolled in a high school or until the have PARTICIPATED on a high school team.

I will certainly not deny that the GSS students do an outstanding job, but to say they carry much of the load may be overstating it a bit. Historically - the last four years - FHS took in only 10 - 20 tuition students. They averaged between 14 and 16 each year (a couple of those would be upperclassmen). GSS school graduated about 40, 4 of which go to LexCath and the other 36 were divided proportionally between Frankfort and the County schools. In other words about 5 or 6 came from GSS and most of those were girls. . . . Out of 340 students at the most, very most, 40 would be from GSS. The bulk of the students in FHS are still from SSS "which produces students that know how to study and do very well in High School." SSS also met all of its NCLB goals this past year I have a 4th grader and a kindergartner at SSS and Rich Crowe is an outstanding principal and they have great teachers. It is pretty remarkable to meet the NCLB goals with the high percentage of Free and reduced lunch students and the historical data that shows this as being the primary achievement gap. anybody heard who the new coach will be??:confused:

Historically it is has been that they had smaller classes - last year the high school was capped at 25 per class - and they had open lunch. Both of these are probably coming to an end for at least a year. BTW - Frankfort was the only school in central kentucky that met all of its AYP goals last year for NCLB. I would say they are doing pretty dang good academically. As long as the county and city have reciprocity agreements, the new rule will not affect them. I am sure that those student who attend GSS and live in the Frankfort district will make a strong case not to be denied the right to go to their "home" school and continue to participate. Travelling 30+ miles to school at their own expense will be considered a hardship.

Your numbers are just plain wrong: Franklin County is over 1100 Western Hills may exceed 800 next year Frankfort High has about 320 Monte Chance has nothing to do with Frankfort High School so his decisions about elementary schools is irrelevant. 1992 they tried to combine the schools and the community was against it. A school located on the E/W connector may be 15 minutes from the other schools, but it is not reachable in 15 minutes from 'anywhere in the county'. If you talk to leading Superintendents in the state, the ideal comprehensive high school has about 1000 students. Look at the numbers in the Oldham County System - i would say the county system is playing its #s about right, and Frankfor fits a special niche for those who need it. Lastly, the feeder system rules will not come into play as long as the city and county schools have a reciprocal agreement. If the schools allow state money to travel with the kids when they go to an out of district school, that is okay. Middle school choice won't matter. You must not have paid much attention to Frankfort High's Athletic programs the last 5-7 years. Some have competed exceptionally well, while others have not - like most high schools. It is not rare for the Football, soccer, boys basketball, and track to compete with both county and hills and with other teams in the region.

It is still not free - you either work to play or you pay to play - just doesn't seem fair. What about those kids who have little financial means and a non-interested parent. I guess they have to take their ball and go home.

So, on top of the practices (2 - 2.5 hours per day during the season) plus the weight training that serious athletes do in the off season, plus the 1 - 2 hours of homework per night, plus the field work that the players do for upkeep of their facility (raking, dragging, mowing) they also need to "work" so that they can have officials at their games and nice uniforms etc. All this so that YOU (the general YOU and not a specific you) won't have to fork over the cost of a value meal or a matinee movie to watch them play. I guess that is fair.

They have pretty much dropped out of BINGO since the smoking ban came to Frankfort. Not making as much money as they have historically and they have to make it up someway. The Boards of Education have to raise taxes to pay for these activities or they have to charge more at the gate, or they charge to play. It is disingenous to say you get in Free at the games in Lexington when the kids that are on the team have to pay somewhere in the neighborhood 500.00 just to walk on the field. If they play 30 games that is more than $15.00 per game for the players, and people complain about 5.00 to get in. WOW Any suggestions on where to get the money to support the program if 5.00 at the gate is too much. FWIW I think 5.00 was becasue it is a district game.

Wasn't Craig Foley a candidate the last time this job was open? Everybody knows what a great job he has done at Frankfort High . . . :sssh:

The coaching card is by the Kentucky High School Coaches Association. No school has to honor any passes, it is not a KHSAA mandate. And, btw - the region coaches and ADs make the decision at the regional meetings not the host - all decision are based on a vote with each participating school getting one. These schools really do need the cost of everyone's entry. Most districts are no longer able to foot the bill for athletics so they rely on the teams/coaches to fund themselves.

Way to go Bucket and Coach Bucket. He is well deserving and a fine young man.

It is not a so called crisis, it is a real crisis. At the end of fiscal year 2006 the Bd of Ed. paid an architect fee of 150K+ out of it s general fund. (The money was immediately replaced in fiscal year 2006-2007). When the $$ come out of the fund, it actually put Frankfort in the red. KDE has seized financial control of the district and will at the very least have a strong influence in personell decisions including # of teachers and coaches at all levels. School Districts, by law, cannot run deficits and must maintain a 2% contingency fund. Frankfort fell short of both of those. If Foley is creative and parents work hard, they should be able to overcome any cuts in staff through fund-raising support by the booster club. All Frankfort needs to do to improve is to give the coaches the freedom to coach without worrying about job security related to coaching strategies.

You apparently have never been to an 11th region tournament. Especially the one held at The Frankfort Convention Center last year. AWESOME. Best playing facility in the state.

I don't really understand this "visitation" notion. Someone, whom I don't really know at all, should invite me into their home, because I stopped by, to let me tell them about this personal relationship with someone that they don't even know (JESUS). Shouldn't our witness be our daily lives? We meet people, develop a relationship with them and because we are Christians they see Christ's love through the joy that we have and want to know more about it:creepy:
