I'll have to go with Tigers from Kenton co. in this one. The Tigers from Bellevue just just don't have the team speed to keep up with Kayiotas and company. I root for both of these teams year in and year out, but it looks like this is the year of the Red Tigers........

I predicted a close win for the Beechies with a big game from Kayiotos. Sounds like I was right on. If Beechwood is going to go far into the playoffs this year, Pete K. is going to have to be the player he was tonight. They cannot ride Bankamper alone into Louisville this year. I'll take Covcath or Highlands D anyday of the week. I'd take their offenses too, for that matter. Ryle is tough, but I still don't see them getting out of the 2nd round of the playoffs. They are indeed good for nky 4a, but overall the 4a division is Extremely weak this year. Sorry 4a fans....but its true.........

True Redhound-I believe the record is something like 881 by Highlands in 1998 but keep in mind that they set that record with only keeping there starters in literally half a game. If Mercer has that kind of firepower, i don't think anyone, including Newport or any other team in the state can stop them this year. What will Mercer be class wise next season?

you might be right DeepThreat05, but if HC can manage to have a few good years were they knock off a Beechwood and a NCC, they could very well turn a few heads away from the Covcaths and the Beechwoods. A few good players go there and then your talking about them being a very good ball team. It only takes a handfull of really good players and some very good roll players to be consistently good on the 1a and 2a levels, especially after next year when all the classes get watered down across the board. I know some people like this new classification system, but it will get watered down.

it does sound as if the 1a championship will run thru titletown this year, but you can never count out the beechies or more recently, the thoroughbreds. It would be interesting to add another nky 1a team to the state champ picture. It would get the downstate boys in a uproar over another nky school in perennial contention for a 1a championship. with all that being said, i still think HC is still a few years away from being considered a legit contender year in and year out. i'll go with pretender until proved otherwise!

I think i would pack it in and goe back to the drawing board and figure out a defensive scheme that would stop your next opponent. lick our wounds and get ready for next week. there is still alot of season left and i would want to try and learn from this one and hopefully get out of this one with no more injuries.

yes, Newport has a new fieldturf playing surface and renovated stadium as of this season. Looks great from 471 when you drive past.

i predict Mercer 21 Newport 7. Mercer will have great speed but i don't think their physical play on the line will surprise the wildcats. remember who the wildcats head coach is and were he played. He knows how to coach a line to be physical as well!

AWNP- i guess your correct (and you obviously have a much better memory than I) but you can usually take very little from the covcath v beechwood game as that is one of those rivalries were records and margin of victory mean very little as to how the rest of the year will go for both teams. your right as far as NCC is concerned though, they did get waxxed by a good covcath team and it seemed the memory of that loss motivated them the rest of the season.

I thought that Ncc was definitely considered a championship contender at this point last year, as was Beechwood. It was just a matter of who would survive out of the two of them.........at least thats what i remember about last seaon.

i had hoped the tigers could be a little more competitive in nky 1a this year with another year of Eickstein at the helm, but i guess in high school nothing can make up for a lack of the kind of talent they had enjoyed for a couple of years. Hopefully the tigers can get a few more wins and experience and really make a good run next year. does anyone know what kind of talent the tigers might have coming back on the lower grades?

i don't think i would be putting a w in the column just yet in either the Dayton or Bracken game. the tigers have not shown they can beat either one of these two team. Dayton looks like they might be little better than expected this year.
