I was at the game and there wasn't a lot of defense played on either side. Straight line drives to the basket with no help were the norm and not the exception. Both teams shot well from the perimeter but most were wide open looks. I have seen Holmes 2 times and Scott 3 times this season and am pretty comfortable saying that each is defensively challenged.

Ohmer is a very nice player and barring something catastrophic will leave Scott as it's all time leading scorer by a wide margin. However, by the time Hatton was a soph he had already dropped his first thousand and been a major contributor on a Sweet 16 team. In addition to his high school exploits he had already established himself as a very good player on an elite AAU level. Give Ohmer some time but that is not a fair comparison at this moment.

That would be very bad as Ohmer is only a sophomore and personal correspondence such as phone calls; texts and emails are not permissable until June 15 after his sophomore year. All he is permitted to receive now is general camp info.

Thread is a blast from the past! Would think Ruthsatz and Thelen would start showing up on some CovCath lists? Does Jake Giesler from NewCath deserve some consideration? He put up a lot of points and rebounds in his time there? For Brossart do Jake Rieger and Alex Trentman deserve some consideration? Don't recall seeing lists from schools like Scott & Dixie. Dixie has a long basketball tradition and a recent star in Hatton. Hard to imagine a list without him being in the starting five. And as my dad has told me for years you can't discuss All Time Holmes players without Bob Barton!!

Made a call and got my own question answered....August 2014 restrictions for off campus recruiting are basically the same as 2013. No in home visits for current juniors until the April recruiting period.

Have they changed the D1 recruiting guidelines recently? Used to be that an in home visit with a junior could only be done during the April recruiting period? Off campus contacts used to be limited to prospects educational institution for juniors except for that April recruiting period? NCAA rules change frequently so if there has been any changes since the August 2013 update that might allow for an in home visit with a current junior? If they are scheduling the in home visit for April already that is extremely proactive planning by that particular program!

Have not eaten at Blinkers yet..... Go to Keystone across the street for the Mac-n-Cheese and Blinkers always seems to have a nice crowd.

Finally made it to Packhouse in Newport and had a really good meal. Had the daily special which was a cream cheese and jalapeno meatball and the jalapeno macaroni. Will definitely go back to try some of the other menu items. Seemed a little pricey with a few beers on the tab but a different type of dining experience.

CovCath-Holmes rivalry just went up another few notches in intensity!

Nothing really surprises me anymore on the high school or summer ball circuit. Routinely see young pitchers throwing 80-100 pitches and breaking balls are being coached instead of teaching location and changing speeds. Have seen players catch the first game of a DH and then become the starting pitcher the very next game. I think what truly convinced me that we have created a situation that is not healthy for young pitchers is that I saw a 9U team with a radar gun.

Believe that Ruthsatz will be back on the CovCath bench. Findlay has been successful because of the quality and loyalty of their coaching staff. Unless Coach Shardo who is currently the Associate Head Coach has applied and is about to be named a coach somewhere else I don't see an opening on their bench. Don't see Ruthsatz being the 4-5th assistant on D-2 bench at this point in his career.

Hard to confirm actual offers as a lot of what goes on in the recruiting process are rumors. Have heard he visited Findlay and Ohio Dominican and someone reported an offer from Christian Brothers. All of those are D2. Always thought he could play at the D2 level but like most players needed the right system, right opportunity. Gets a chance to play close to home.

Good get for Coach Cooper. Good haul of N Ky guards

Kellen Smith just completed his sophomore season at SVSU. SVSU went 9-17 last season playing mostly freshmen and sophs. They had the GLIAC freshmen of the year. Stuhr will be joining a solid young nucleus

Great game plan by CovCath but a little surprised there hasn't been more mentions of Holmes complete inability to play against the zone? Booher is a state championship caliber coach and the rest of the staff is pretty highly respected but Holmes looked completely lost playing against that zone? They were extremely effective the few times the ball was thrown into the lane for some high low action but the rest of the game they were content to pass the ball around the perimeter until someone shot a contested 3? No attempts to get the ball to the short corner, screen the backside of the zone and throw a skip pass, etc? Credit CovCath for playing well with the zone but Holmes made it way too easy to be defended. Ruthsatz best player on the floor and while Bolden will end up at a higher level when all is said and done I would probably take Ruthsatz to run my HIGH SCHOOL team. Would liked to have seen Bolden step up in the first half when Ruthsatz was going off and take on the challenge of guarding him. If you are going to be able to get on the court on the high D1 level you better be ready to guard players of that caliber.

I think Ruthsatz stays at CovCath. He has his kids coming up thru the system and probably wants the opportunity to coach them as well. Findlay is a relatively short drive up 75 and with the way the GLIAC conference schedules with a little help from his AD at CovCath he can make quite a few games on Findlays conference schedule.

Scott HS in the late '80's in their only state appearance. Believe they were well under .500 heading into districts and I think were only at .500 after running off 5-6 wins to win region?

Well done previews and player listing. Agree that once you get past first team there are a lot of solid basketball players that you could include on the 2nd and 3rd team. Would liked to have seen Will Stuhr from Ryle on the 3rd team. Does a lot of little things well and might have an opportunity to play at the D2 level based upon a couple of recent college visits. With Tanner Whites recent commit to Thomas More it is interesting to see him on 3rd Team with future Saint teammate Zach McNeil! Solid job by Coach Cooper!

Not surprised that Cru won but the margin does seem a little surprising.

Lot of very good players in the 10th during this time frame and really tough to pick a top 10-15 and when you narrow it down to 7 it gets downright crazy. I just can't include Bach in a top 7 over some of the other players mentioned due to the level of competition faced night in and night out. My opinion of Bach is that he is a solid D2 player and much like my thoughts on Nick Ruthsatz of CovCath before he committed to Findlay I thought D1 could happen but it would have to be a perfect fit system wise and still might be a stretch. To include Bach in a top 7 you have to leave out Robby Stenzel who had a great career at GRC! Not to beat a dead horse but accomplished this against a much tougher schedule. Speaking of Zollo where is he playing basketball now? I thought he left WKU and went to Furman but I did not see him listed on Furman's roster?

I would have to include Corey Pelle in any 10th Region listing as like Mustang stated earlier I think he was that good. Some very good Brossart players during that time span as well. Why I wouldn't include Kellen Smith from Scott in a top 7 scenario I would consider him for any top 10-15 mention. Not many had a better high school career. Scored close to 1300 points and finished career as all time assist (600+) and steal leader at Scott. Throw in 3 straight District Tournament MVP's. Not many tougher more competitive players from the 37th in Scott's relatively short time in the 10th
