Sportsy, you are correct that Owens is smooth as silk! But please listen to AtLeast along with others outside the "program" that he is not SEC caliber level. If Marquis Dawson was not D1 SEC level a couple of years ago, I dont believe Owens is. Marshall or Small Div1 school is a definite go! But attitude and being a team player is what is holding him back to maybe stepping it up a level in College. If he can make the grades and work out the obvious personal issues on the court, then he has a very promising future at the next level.

RickyP, you are partially correct when you say that public schools have the advantage because the student doesn't have to foot the bill! But, my argument is that the point is mute in ALL CASES if there is not a legitimate address change. Private schools have no boundaries (as of today, if I am correct) thus allowing them more freedom of who participates athletically. Public schools are still confined to district boundaries unless there is a definite address change! KHSAA is the one who ultimately decides on what is a correct change of address in all cases and we all know that their superior investigative skills are in the same park as some of our CIA informants on WMD's.

Owens is definitely a difference maker in any game his takes part of. More than Vanhoose would be. But, I believe it all boils down to if Russell shows up! Play 2 Win stated it the same as I believe. If Russell, with or without Vanhoose decides to play, they will handle Boyd (even with Owens) on many nights. Clark vs. Owens, Gill vs Blanton and Blair vs Shannon all matchups would lean towards Russell. (granted Owens will get his share of points 20+). If Vanhoose is healthy (far from it), they raise back up to the upper echilon in the 16th, and yes above Boyd.

Nothing against Owens, because he is by far the best talent in the 16th Region. But, If Owens goes to Kentucky, it will definitely be another recruiting mistake by Tubby! Tubby is a good to great coach, but not a very good recruiter. That has been his major issue at KY for years. Owens is not (IMO) talented enough to guide a SEC caliber team into national contention. He would be just another Stockton on the roster of nobodies.

RickyP, correct me if I am wrong, but open enrollment is worthless when it comes to athletic eligibility unless there is an "official" address change with the (both) parents moving also.

When it comes to the private vs. public debate, I believe too many people are missing the point here. Private schools do the best they can with the rules / finances they are given to work with. Private schools do not intentionally recruit, but they must advertise however is the most effective way possible to survive against public funded schools in every area. So yes, sometimes athletics is the best source of enticement for prospective students. But, Sixtyfeetsix said it best, When you have players who can choose what schools they wish to attend, you are always going to have better teams at that school. If you have players who played together since they were all like 8 years old, and they get together and decide to goto the same school, they WILL be good. sorry, Im new here and dont know how to quote from anothers post. That is not recruiting, just parents making decisions for what they feel is best for their kids! I believe IT IS UNFAIR that private schools can do this and public schools cant. but private schools, whether they feel slighted or not, Do have the advantage when it comes to assembling an athletic team, especially when it deals with the smaller schools.

I watched the game close to the Greenup bench, and I still do not see much coaching from Hicks! He whines on every call and gets in the head of weak minded referees. Greenup's kids flat out whooped Russell tonight, and they wanted it more and did EVERYTHING BETTER than Russell did. But what made me sick the most was the way Russell's Big 3 don't seem to want to play on many nights. They are some of the most talented kids in the region and they rely on that too much rather than playing hard (no heart). How many times did Kasey Clark nonchalantly jog up the court barely even controlling the ball as he "directed" the offense. Paethetic, if you ask me. I don't see how anybody can blame Dodd for anything that has been happening with this team, because you can't coach HEART. Russell got beat in every phase in this game and yes they did shoot around 25% (unexcusable), but nobody should take anything away from the Riley kid. He was the best player on the court last night. I just hope that Russell can turn this thing around and start taking shots within Dodd's offense and not trying to rely on talent alone.

So, needless to say it could have been a lot worst than the score showed huh? Thanks for your reply pack.

I think this post is a perfect example of a district tournament being seeded! If Ashland and Rose Hill are the #3 & #4 teams, then Fairview and Boyd "DESERVE" to be playing a "lesser" team and the two best teams advance to the region tournament. If you want a Cinderella story then let's see if Ashland or Rose Hill could pull off an upset (in game 1 or 2 of the district tournament) and become the underdogs everyone will pull for.

Are there any freshmen on either team that plays up on JV or Varsity that was not there tonight? Would that have made ANY difference in the outcome of this game. It seems that with that lopsided of a score, that nothing would really have changed the outcome, but just a thought?
