I think SK pretty much dominated the whole game. I think the bad snaps were all on one drive. Cooper did stop them twice when SK had first and goal inside the five.

Name them I see one that I know of, but I guess you are counting one that went out for the season a couple of weeks ago.

#31 ran the ball 4 out of 5, of the last plays of the game, those last 4 rushing plays he gained about 25 yards. Oh, the 5th play of the five the starting Qb ran it for zero yards.

Well, I didn't add up what was on the website...I watched the film and wrote down yards gained and lost on each play. Also, my total is for the whole game. If I went by 1st team only, it about 30 yards less, Dixie's last seven rushing plays of the 4th quarter went for 30 yards.

Just to to be certain I just watched it again and compared it to what I got the first time. Looking at my notes I did have a typo, it should have been 95 yards, not 85. This time I came up with 97 yards rushing, not including sacks(actually comes off the rushing totals in high school), if I include scrambles and sacks deduct 1 yard from the total rushing yards. So, SK vs Dixie rushing stats: Dixie rushed the ball 39 times for 97 yards, for an average of 2.48 yards per carry. Include sacks 41/96 at 2.34 yards per carry.

Yes, it is a totally new experience for most everyone, but I would think WV would be a top ten team in their class, by now. No doubt, having Beechwood and NCC in their class does make it tough to make a deep run in the playoffs, there is no arguing that point. But I don't think how deep a team goes into the playoff is an end all measuring stick to the success or failure of a program. I do think that if you added 3-5 varsity starters, from the areas I mentioned, that WV would be better on the football field. That is only 3-5 in a given year in grades 10-12, so like one in each class. To me there is no reason there shouldn't be at least two per class moving the total number of out of district starters up to 6. Does this mean they are beating Beechwood or NCC, not necessarily, but they would have a better chance. I am shocked that they have not had more kids play college. Every kid that graduated could have played college football, not get scholarship money but they could play. But most times it is a case of kids choosing not to prolong their careers. Being on on the outside like I am, I am probably just oversimplifying things. I do think that having Cole playing at UK, plus getting a well deserved scholly, will be a huge boost to the program. Now, parents and kids at WV have that example of what football can do for someone when considering college. The boost might not be felt immediately but in the next few years, folks around the program will be able to look back and see the impact it made.

From what I understand, which is I admit limited, almost all the things you mentioned are not done in Ft. Thomas. I mention them because to me they are the benchmark program in the state, period and I think programs should look hard at what they do to achieve that success. I can can see maybe every once in awhile the varsity coach coming to a game or two but how much do you want them to do in a given week? Most varsity programs I am aware of don't have any free time during the season to make it to middle school games, consistently. Heck, some varsity coaches have trouble finding time to get to freshman games. Maybe the varsity coach could come talk to the team one night prior to the season. During the off season you want the varsity coach to have the middle school team sit with him at basketball games behind the bench? I could see maybe have a middle school night, like a little get together but only for one night. To to me it doesn't matter what you call the plays and terminology used, what matters is teaching them how to play football. Heck, every year the returning JV/varsity have to re-learn things because they don't exactly retain things like many coaches wish they would and that's after being with the varsity coaches for a whole year. I do not think middle school kids need to be in a high school team locker after a game, really at all. Yes, most programs have a coach or coaches in the locker rooms at all times to monitor things but there is a reason teams do this. I think most programs do let players in if they wear their jersey to the game. I do like the idea of having a varsity player come to a practice. Could be set up to have it as a mentor program for Seniors. I think something else the varsity could do, would be to have a free 3 day camp for all the players in their district. Use the JV/Varsity players to assist in running the drills and teaching, in addition to having the Freshman/JV/Varsity teaching and interacting with the kid before the upcoming season. This is also a great way for the parents to meet the coaches and watch them in action. The points I am making are not an attempt to argue or totally disagree, just a point counter point discussion.

Looking at HC's schedule, will they win another game outside of Newport?

Just get the ball to Jones and Obugo...something they do not do enough of, especially Obugo. I cannot understand why they have all these special built in plays for Thompson to get the ball in space but not Obugo, or Jones for that matter. I think Thompson is good, really good, but nowhere near as dynamic as Jones or JJ. If I am playing LC I would much rather Thompson have the ball than the other two. When I watch them it seems like the offense revolves around Thompson, sprinkle in some Jones, and JJ is an after thought. Thanks to LC for broadcasting, posting, and archiving all their games!

What do these other schools do, to make them feel part of the program?

It is not like the other top independents in NKY just take anyone either, regardless of athletic ability. I guess agree to disagree on what level the program is at or should/could be.

It shouldn't be at WV, IMO. I think they are a underachieving football program in NKY. Being an independent, they are in a position to more easily attract out of district students. With a top notch academic reputation, one would think there should be no problem having kids in their area, outside of the district enrolling. I would think their geographical location, kids from Grant, Owen, and Gallatin Counties along with SE Kenton County and Southern Boone County might entertain the idea of attending WV. If they just got one good athlete a year or every other year from the 5 areas I mentioned, they should be competing for state titles. On top of the academics they have great facilities in place for their football program to be a annual state contender.

Where do you keep coming up with 150 yards rushing given up vs Dixie? I have seen the film and I come up with about 85 yards rushing for Dixie vs SK.

That was a lot of players for not having their JV.
