Tough schedule! Last year many believed X had the toughest schedule as well. Playing this type of schedule is good experience for building towards a state run, but a number of people close to the program wonder if the team was worn out by the end of the regular season and playoffs. This type of schedule, week in and week out, often meant that the starters played more reps (more injuries and dings) and not as well rested at the end when it counted. Hopefully, that won't be a factor this year.

I hope a X - T football game doesn't break out during the parade. The X men will be participating in the parade as well. Our guys will be guiding the McD's balloon. I hear the rocks get the horses again:laugh:

I tend to agree with you on this one. Curley was a strong leader for the offense. He understood his role on the team and as a result, was extemely important to the success of the Tigers for the last two years. I think there is some good talent coming up but I don't believe any 'one' of the players fighting for the job this year will fill the leadership role Brent gave to the team. Obviously, he wasn't the playmaker Brian was (who is) but the intangibles made him vital to the success of the team. It will be very important for Vic or Eckman to step up and show strong leadership early in the year until one of these guys can take over. With the returning talent, I think they will be just fine, but as Rock says, they will have a hard time replacing Curley. Now, in a couple of years... we may be able to put DJ Hall's name in the mix for top QB:thumb:

I would say Zoeller is the front runner at this point. I have heard rumor of a knee problem. the extent and timing of repair(if necessary) could play a big role in whose there for 7 on 7 and in top form come August. Senior Chris Wade is not out of the picture. Not great footspeed but a good, accurate arm. I think Hall will certainly get his reps, as he is most likely the QB of the future. And yes...you will see #3 behind center as well. The Tiger offense will role this year.

Some of the players said he still is in playing shape. Already pushing (and teaching) them in the weight room. First impressions from the players was very favorable. Could be a great addition to the staff. Especially helps that he is a former CARD:ylsuper:

This is the obvious correct answer in all of this. The thing to realize is that there are many very good high school and college ball players who have 'natural strength' and speed. That is, they are not the powerlifting champ or the track champ... they are just naturally good football players. They have instinct and natural ability. Needles to say, strength and speed are a necessity, I think being particularly strong in one of these areas covers up other weaknesses. If I were a college coach-Give me the guy that 'just can play the game' and I'll enhance the other areas.

Understood. Yes, these guys got playing time last year, but I named them only because I think they have the opportunity to make the most noise this year. ie: role player (little recognition) last year -- big year this year.Lots of talent to choose from. As is every year, it will be fun to see who steps up and takes thier turn in the limelight. I think, due to the program coach runs, it is seldom that a 'young' one really pops into a starring role as happens at other schools. So often, the guys at X only have 1 - 1 1/2 years to make a name for themselves on the varsity level. So there are not as many 'surprise' players.

I think you would have to add Brad Schmitt - DL, David Barrito - Saftey, and Harrison Huelsman - DB to that list. I believe these players will anchor the defense. Barrito, Huelsman and Pat Bisig will lead the back seven. Schmitt should be the leader of the D-line. Eckman will be a solid, lead by example guy for the offense. The guys you mention are mostly juniors who are going to be really good players but there are some good seniors who will be the leaders next year. In the spirit of the thread, I think the surprise players for X next year will be Duece Finch on offense and Brad Schmitt on defense.

I was really impressed with your program last year. Felt like the team was disciplined and had a great demeanor on the field. Looks like yur coach is a good one. With having two returning QB's will there be anymore emphasis on the passing game or will he stick primarily to the run game with Hibbitt? I think a matchup of him and Vic to start the season will be great! X defense will have all new starters this year, this will be a great test for them early in the year and will let them know how they stand and what they will need to work on. It is said they will be a really solid unit, just need to get starting reps under their belts. You will need that 'stud LB' to keep Vic, Duece and Co. in check

:cry: It's always nice to see envy rear it's ugly face . this arrangement is good for both X and Germantown. You don't like it because you can't have it at T. Yes, you can always find someone who doesn't like change and will call it a bad thing, and that is what you are hanging your argument on. The Germantown people and X have a good working relationship and co-exist quite nicely, thank you :sleep:

Gee, do you think they will EVER let their playcalling imaginations run wild? You are absolutely correct in the varied possibilities with this group in the backfield! There is a good contrast in running styles and abilities amongst these guys. If the coaches allow themselves, they could really keep the opposing d-coordinators off balance. Should be fun to watch this offense develop.

I also agree. The game last year was hard fought and I believe this years game will be no different. X will certainly be less experienced but a lot of the seniors-to-be got some good reps and experience last year. I think early in the season they will be 'finding their chemistry' and things could be a little rocky. While I agree they will be smaller on the O-line, those assuming starting roles are very agressive kids and that will offset the inexperience. Now, on defense, I have heard the projected starters and if true, they will be noticably bigger on the D-line (15-20 lbs heavier per man!) and quicker. I think this will be a great game to kick off both teams season. Had a great time (storm and all :jump: ) last year, looking forward to going back.

I hope that is true. We played several AAU tournament games there a couple of years ago. Really nice set up. I think that would be a good alternate site for the team. The boys should feel good about that being there 'home field' for awhile.

I think you are correct about this team. I thought our game with them last year was one of the toughest fights we had. They play hard and with the addition of a few key players, they could be a factor in the district. At the start of the playoffs I picked them to be the darkhorse to upset some people and advance further thatn they did. I like the way coach Wolfe is molding this program. They have always had some good athletes there, now they are beginning to have a pretty good team. I hope and expect, though, the Tigers can stay a step ahead of them. Strength in numbers is still a factor in X's favor. Year after year they have shown how to win playing team ball.

Back to the thread. The tennis courts look great at this stage. Hopefully, when all is finished in this area, things will be corrected and make for a good looking entrance for Germantown ballpark. Speaking of baseball, the tiger 9 will be inconvenienced for a year or so but it will be worth it in the long run. This whole complex will be something for the students and alumni to share and be proud of. The football stadium will be fantastic! Soooooo overdue. Glad to see it is finally going to happen. It will be nice to actually go to 'home games'. Without a doubt, a new era in St X tradition will unfold! I'm ready to order my opening night tickets now!!

My respone was more to the BGP posters who make these kind of comments. Like you, I know and have many friends who are T alumni and they do not have that attitude. I had my turn as a student and all the rivalry at its highest level. Today, with a little more perspective, I know both are great schools and am a firm believer in the programs of both! Have to defend Coach and the school when appropriate.

I think this is a good question. Not all of us are 'in the know' about these camps. I know it is really important for the boys to be 'seen' to have an opportunity to go to the next level. I know about the big camps: Notre Dame, Michigan, ect. but what about the local area schools, ie: an oppotunity for Western, Eastern, ect?
